How long does an ultrasound take?
Q: I have to get an ultrasound done tomorrow morning of my liver and other pelvic areas. How long will it be epected to take. I have problems staying still. Will they give me something to calm me? Should I have someone else drive or will I be ok on my own? Will I be ok to go to work after the test? Thanks so much!
A: ultra sound is quick and not scary. basically, they will put some warm jelly on you and rub a smooth scanner thing over your skin,,if you want to, they will show you the pictures during the scan, like watching TV,,it will be black and white and you probably wont even know what you are looking at, but kinda cool to see some images of your insides,,its not gross, so evenif you are squeemish, it wont be too freaky. The actual test only takes 10-15 minutes. do drugs, needles, shots or anything,,the people that do the tests do them allday long and they see ALL kinds of people, they will talk you through it, they are always very nice.
how long does it take for a liver to shut down?
Q: My uncle was admitted to a hospital two weeks ago for double pnemonia. He had a drinking problem (drank everyday) and he was on methadone for heroin addiciton for the last 20 years. He was in the hospital with a breathing mask and two days later they put him under because he kept trying to take the mask off. He never woke up. At first I asked the doctors if he had getting methadone and they said yeah. What started as double pnemonia turned into his kidneys and liver shutting down. The night before he died I asked the nurse if he was getting methadone and she said NO. She looked confused too. I feel so guilty about his death. I don’t know if he really did die because he abused himself so much or if it was just because he was going t hrough withdrawl and co uldn’t do anything about it because he was under sedation. I didn’t try hard enough to save him. Would he have been doomed anyway? Would his liver eventually shut down anyway if it was already pretty bad? I can’t get over this now.
A: I can’t tell you what killed him, as I’m not a doctor. But I can tell you that drugs like heroin cannot cause death from withdrawls. Alcohol can cause the DT’s, which is when your liver shuts down and can happen almost instantly and rarely shows symptoms before it’s too late.Stop blaming yourself, he lived a hard life and did all of these things to his body. He was lucky to have died in a hospital with family who loved him rather than with a needle in his arm on a street corner somewhere. It sounds like he was a pretty hardcore addict, and there was no way for you to save him, failing liver or not.
how long does it take to move on after being hurt so bad?
Q: my husband and I have been married for almost 5 years and we recently seperated about 2 months ago and he lets people interfer and say hurtful things about me and our daughter. am I right in wanting to go on and end this marriage even though I know I still care about him but he don’t seem to care about us. He will call and tell our daughter that he is coming up to see her and never shows up and I am tired of seeing her get hurt like that. She takes seizures and I don’t want her to keep getting upset and it cause her to have a seizure. We just found out this week that she has liver problems for the seizure meds she is on and it don’t even seem to bother him. Is wrong for me to just tell him straight up to either quit lieing to her or he can just wait and see her on his visitations. I have been trying to do the right thing and let him see her whenever he wants. Her daddy has always been her world. When she is sick or hurting that is who she wants. But he won’t come be with her then.my daughter is only 4 years of age and he has seen her take seizures before. She takes them sometimes and is unconsuious for 6 hours at a time. she has had a rough life. she was born 9 weeks old and had sleep apnea and everything. but don’t nothing seem to matter to himhe has even let his sister in law say that she needs to die. and he didn’t say nothing about it because he said that he didn’t want to cause troubleno he don’t mean more to me than her. she is my life not him. he has wished that I would die and I have heart trouble and have fought cancer. so no he don’t mean more to me.
A: This man is not worthy of your daughter’s love and devotion. If I were you I would monitor her phone calls and not let him talk to her if he is going to upset her. It is for her health and well-being. Has he seen her have a seizure? That’s not fun. I am used to it because of my job, but for someone who doesn’t see them on a regular basis, they can be quite shocking. When she is healthy enough to understand, she needs to know the truth about her father, tell her that it’s not her problem it’s his problem. Also tell her that you can’t control how other people act, just the way you react to how they act.
