Please help me =( *About smoking*?
Q: This has REALLY been bothering me ALOT lately. You see, alot of my friends/people I care about smoke cigarettes. I always hear alot of bad stuff about smoking - like it kills you, it'll cause lung/mouth cancer, etc... I've even heard cigarettes be called "cancer sticks" before. Is smoking REALLY that bad for you? If it is, how are cigarettes even legal and why would someone make something that's just going to kill others? I'm really scared about it because as I've said alot of my friends/people I care about happen to be smokers and they're all so young *most are in their 20s, some are still late teens (18-19)* and I don't want to lose them over something like that because for the rest of my life all I'd be thinking is "wow... they'd still be with me if they hadn't smoked..." and I'd feel bad for never trying to get them to stop or something. I'll admit I've even thought about becoming a smoker myself, that way if smoking would turn out to be a "killer", me AND my beloved friends would all die the same way. And besides, I've heard that cigarettes are a GREAT help with stress, and since I have alot of stress to deal with most the time, I figure it might actually help me. I know that may sound insanely stupid but it's true. On a different note, my grandparents have smoked for years and years *they have for as long as I can ever remember... I'd say easily over 15-20 years*. They're in their 70s and have never once had any cancer scares or anything like that. They're actually pretty healthy for people their age and still like to go places/take drive and eat out. So is smoking REALLY as bad as people make it out to be? Or are they just trying to scare people so they don't start because it's a "bad habbit"?I don't know how talking to them about not smoking anymore would go because I doubt they'd listen if I told them to stop... because I don't think they think it's a big deal and obviously smoking is rather addicting and I wouldn't want them to get annoyed with me or think I was nagging at them/trying to tell them how to live their life. It's not like that at all - I'm just scared/worried for them because I love them and care about them and couldn't image losing them over something like smoking. So can someone please help me/give me some advice? And please, be sure your HONEST when you answer this. I don't want anyone lying to me in order to try and make me feel better or make me not worry anymore. I'd only feel WORSE when I found out you were lying to make me feel better... so please, give the truth in your answers.I'm SO sorry that this is so long, but I'm really worried over this. I mean like I said... pretty much ALL my friends smoke *I can't think of very many who don't*... so it's obvious I'm going to be scared and worry about them since they're my friends and I'm close to them. So thanks ahead of time to anyone/everyone who actually takes the time to read all this and answer me... it's appreciated more than you realize.
A: Some people die of lung cancer, some are never affected. Keep in mind it's not just tobacco in cigarettes. There's all sorts of pesticides and heavy metals. I wouldn't smoke that crap. I do smoke an organic tobacco pipe every once in a while, and I'm not worried about that. Seriously though, smoking isn't just a bad habit. Nicotene changes your body chemistry so you need it to function. It's a stimulant so when you don't have it you're cranky. And cigs are 5 bucks a box. Seems like a dumb thing to start. Me? I smoke marijuana. But then I do that for medical reasons. Even so though, I wouldn't smoke cigarettes. That is some nasty stuff.
Marijuana vs. Alcohol what's your opinion?
Q: Here is a question that i am curious to see how many people will give an honest answer. Which do you prefer to be legalized Marijuana or Alcohol? Below are just a few facts about both.... (I did look up the facts that are posted on both marijuana and Alcohol I did not just make up these facts myself) I will try and post 10 facts eachMarijuana: #1 If Pot were legalized the prison industry would be hurt. They would no longer jail Pot smokers. It could free up space for violent criminals. #2 Pot is a sexual stimulant. #3 Pot is 100% natural nothing about it has man made chemicals in it. #4 There has never been a car accident death due to a stoned driver, just some slow drivers and may be some lost drivers . #5 Pot is used for medical use in MANY situations. #6 it is a myth that marijuana is a gate way drug. #7 Pot will cause some short term memory loss. #8 Pot will give you the Munchies, It could cause you to gain weight. #9 Marijuana smokers show dysregulated growth of epithelial cells in their lung tissue, which could lead to cancer; however, a recent case-controlled study found no positive associations between marijuana use and lung, upper respiratory, or upper digestive tract cancers. Thus, the link between marijuana smoking and these cancers remains unsubstantiated at this time, but marijuana smokers have some of the same problems as cigarette smokers coughing, mucus, sore lungs, etc. #10 Marijuana make most people more relaxed. It relieves the clutter and tension after a hard days work or stress. It mellows you out and makes you more relaxed. It heightens the imagination and improves creativity. If you have a problem with anger, Pot is usually a good drug to reduce it, no one has ever died from smoking marijuana.Alcohol: #1 In VERY SMALL amounts, alcohol can help a person feel more relaxed or less anxious. #2 Alcohol actually blocks some of the messages trying to get to the brain. This alters a person's perceptions, emotions, movement, vision, and hearing. #3 Depending on the person, intoxication can make someone very friendly and talkative or very aggressive and angry. #4 Reaction times are slowed dramatically — which is why people are told not to drink and drive. People who are intoxicated may think they're moving properly when they're not. They may act totally out of character. #5 When large amounts of alcohol are consumed in a short period of time, alcohol poisoning can result. Alcohol poisoning is exactly what it sounds like — the body has become poisoned by large amounts of alcohol. Violent vomiting is usually the first symptom of alcohol poisoning. Extreme sleepiness, unconsciousness, difficulty breathing, dangerously low blood sugar, seizures, and even death may result. #6 One half of all drowning deaths among teen guys are related to alcohol use. Use of alcohol greatly increases the chance that a teen will be involved in a car crash, homicide, or suicide. #7 Teen drinkers are more likely to get fat or have health problems, too. One study by the University of Washington found that people who regularly had five or more drinks in a row starting at age 13 were much more likely to be overweight or have high blood pressure by age 24 than their non drinking peers. People who continue drinking heavily well into adulthood risk damaging their organs, such as the liver, heart, and brain. #8 The strongest medical evidence exists for the link between moderate drinking and a reduced risk of heart disease. #9 Alcohol has been linked to liver disease, cancers, heart damage and strokes when consumed in larger amounts, and even small doses can lead to accidents, Each year, approximately 5,000 young people under the age of 21 die as a result of underage drinking; this includes about 1,900 deaths from motor vehicle crashes, 1,600 as a result of homicides, 300 from suicide, as well as hundreds from other injuries such as falls, burns, and drownings. #10 Hangovers are another possible effect after large amounts of alcohol are consumed; a hangover consists of headache, nausea, thirst, dizziness, and fatigue. In my opinion i think it's safer to smoke a joint than it is to drink a beer, the most dangerous thing about marijuana is getting caught with it. you can google all this info your self before you answer i do not smoke or drink and i do not condone any of the above this is just my opinion on the subject, & I am just curious as to what every ones opinion is on the subject. I am just a homemaker and not any form of government at all or anything like that. Also I looked every were for something good about drinking alcohol and found VERY limited info on it, so please don't think this info posted is one sided for marijuana being good for you, I just found that using google as info finder it's easier to find good things about using pot than using beer.

A: I don't really think that it is a fair comparison. Firstly, at least in North America, marijuana is illegal. As a result there is no regulation of marijuana. You still have to deal with pesticides, etc. and more importantly it is often mixed with other things and is often found to have traces of feces, glass, grass, the list goes on and on. Smoking of course has a number of problems, some of which you have mentioned. That being said you don't have to smoke marijuana, it can also be ingested. Teens, which many of your facts refer to, shouldn't be consuming alcohol at all, especially in such high quantities, so those health effects shouldn't really be considered, as that is irresponsible drinking. There haven't been as many studies of marijuana, so hard facts are difficult. That being said, many driving experts acknowledge that driving slower than the traffic around you is dangerous, and so driving slower as a result of being high is dangerous. People should no more drive under the influence of marijuana than of alcohol. There are a number of other points to be made for both and of both positive and negative. However in my opinion alcohol is better because it can be legally obtained; as well marijuana is most accessible smoked which is bad and smelly, and may be laced with any number of other things, and growing your own is very illegal. The taxes on alcohol also pay for important things and its procurement is regulated and the health effects well known. I also question where you got your facts, I am sure that there have been accidents where people have been high, and people have died from marijuana, either because they are allergic or most likely because it was laced with something else more dangerous, the statistics for alcohol are more abundant. Alcohol is legalized though, so I would say that marijuana should next be legalized; there is a large trade in it and it would be good for it to be regulated and to generate tax income, and would give law enforcement something else to focus on, which was more important than recreational drug use. As well it would be more acceptable to study it and to provide help, much like AA, for those who are over dependent (and to counteract another fact, I know for a fact that lots of people find themselves anxious and not the least bit relaxed when smoking pot).
