Horse not feeling good… Anything ideas?

Q: My horse is acting odd and I think something is wrong… She has not been worked for a while, because I am in school… I recently moved from a dry lot with a shelter to a stable. The place that she moved to has a run, but I don’t think she likes to go out in it like she should. (Where I live=mud everywhere in colder months.) I come every other day to clean her stall, but rarely get to work with her… She went for about two months, then I started letting a lady come out to do some gentle riding. She’s doesn’t have a lot of experience so I always come out with her (thus, she could not be the problem).I worked her a few times before the lady came out to ride and she SEEMED like she MILDY didn’t want to put weight on one of her legs when I lunged her once… And she’s had some stumbly and awkward gait issues lately sometimes back legs look SLIGHTLY stiff. Once she made a sharp turn on a lunge line and fell flat on her side (towards the inside). Now keep in mind that she is NATURALLY a clumsy horse, and she’s just been more clumsy than usual lately, and she is getting like 10% of the exercise she’s used to for a long period.Other weird symptoms include:*Does not want random areas of her body to be touched (most prominent being her girth area and throat) ->Started in late December*MILD cough when exerted->Started before we moved her, but went away then came back in December*Fairly grumpy… but grumpiness disappears when being ridden or doing groundwork-> Started December*Shaking ears and will not let you touch her ears-> Started yesterdayI at first thought her touchiness and grumpiness was because it’s winter- all my tools and my hands get cold and she hates cold stuff on her skin. This could also be explained by not being worked and I don’t think she likes where she is…But now it’s gotten really bad even though the lady comes out for light riding twice a week. Her touchiness is SEVERE now and touchy spots vary a lot. She appears to be in pain, especially under her throat and her girth area… But I have no idea why!! I’ve checked everything and can’t find any reason why those areas would be hurting.The cough is what really worries me… She’s had coughs before where she just coughed a little bit when being exerted for a few weeks then was fine… but this is lasting too long. It’s not severe at all. Just after trotting for a few minutes, she’ll cough once or twice then is fine.I told a vet about the clumsiness and the coughing, and he said wait until after the farrier trims her and see if the clumsiness goes away. He also said EPM is very rare in our area and he doesn’t think it would be that.I really can’t afford a vet to come out right now. I am a college student struggling to make it by until I can transfer to the university I am going to (in a year or so) and the tuition will take care of most of her care. I haven’t been getting ANY hours at work since I moved her. I’ve had to borrow money from friends and sell anything I can to keep her… I literally have $29 in cash and a $50 paycheck coming that my work forgot to send to me. The lady that rides her said she’d try to help me out with board if she can. Board is due in a few days and the farrier is coming on the 18th. I wanted to lease her in March, but I don’t really think I should lease a sick and grumpy horse!Any thoughts as to what is wrong? Any ideas for at-home treatment would be great as well! Just please don’t be rude and tell me how terrible of a horse owner I am or that I should just giver her up. That won’t help at all. I wasn’t supposed to have this responsibility in the first place and got it dumped on me when I was 16 and I’m 18 now. If you want to me rude to someone, be rude to the person that bought her for me!I talked to yet ANOTHER vet tonight and she said that all the signs don’t seem serious and to just slowly work with her and the cough is fine…And do NOT think that I don’t love my horse!! She is like my world right now… But how would you feel if you found a horse that did so much for you that you cry just talking about it and were supposed to be able to all this great stuff other horseowners do but all of a sudden that all gets taken away and now it’s sacrafice school and friends and sell everything you can or just let the horse go?!?!?! I mean, this horse and I have been through hell together- She had this stupid little medical problem and everyone said put her down, but instead I found a treatment that worked; the owner was psycho and tried to say she never sold her to me; I had bitchy, irresponsible stable owners; I quit talking to my dad; I’ve had ***holes for bosses and been fired- I could go on forever. Wouldn’t you be a little bit angry, too!?!?!?!Tried asking vets that- all said no. They are kind of strict about it for a good reason.I don’t know about where you live, but in Washington we have a LOT of irresponsible horseowners. I’m pretty sure that a lot of these vets had agreed to do a payment plan in the past and then the person never paid. We have horses being abandoned left and right. You can go on our area’s Craigslist and find a million sickly horses that you could haul off for free no questions asked. (My favorite is “If you can catch him, you can have him!”) Horse rescues are overpacked and I’d say about half of the horses that go to those rescues get put down.This is one of the reasons I am not giving my horse up until I absolutely have to- She is only really good for beginners since she has no fancy awards or training. A lot of the beginners here are what I call “horse killers.” My horse at least has an owner that gives a ****, which is rare around here! (I apologize for my long-windedness. Lol.)

Is the stiffness on just one side of her body? That would be a huge indicator that she’s tying up. As for the coughing, most horses will cough a couple times during their workout. It’s dusty in most arenas. Heck, I cough all the time when I’m in the arena. The grumpiness could very easily be pent-up energy just coming out. Same with her not wanting her ears touched.EDIT: I sent you an email- it would be worth your time to check it. I might know the horse you are talking about (maybe).

~Urgent and Worried~ A lump under the skin and something else now!?

Q: (I posted this earlier)My hubby to be has a solid lump under his ear lobe, on the neck, it goes down about a inch. Its feels like its under the skin. When Its touched its very uncomfortable for him and it seems quite painful.It came about a week ago, and about four days after he got ill. He was vomiting and had beads of sweat on his forehead. He has been left with cold like symptoms.As he is at work during the day, its hard, especially now its Christmas, to get a appointment at our Doctors. So I am hoping that someone who may have had similar or know of anyone who had these symptoms, could maybe enlighten me as to what may be wrong with him.I am planning on taking him to the Doctors after Christmas, but is there anything I can do to make him feel more comfortable. As the lump seems to be getting bigger as I can now see it as a lump on his neck.Thank you in advance for your time, and Merry Christmas! xUPDATE : He has just had a violent nose bleed, where huge clots have spurred out about the size of a golf ball, not solid. I am now worried sick.
