Why War and Drugs Are Good

According to me, I am very seldom wrong. According to my ex-wives, I am always wrong. This hurts me to say, but they may be right. I could be wrong about the current wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and I also really wish we could have a war in a place that is much easier to spell than Afghanistan. For instance Canada and Mexico are much easier to spell, plus think how much easier it would be to easier to send troops to Canada, than Afghanistan.

In addition to being wrong about the current wars, I could be wrong when I rail against our current drug policy.

Why have I seen the light? Why am I wrong when I say bring the troops home, why am I wrong when I say we are losing the war on drugs?

Because it is not about losing the war in Iraq and it is not about losing the war on drugs, Duh! How stupid can I be? It’s about the economy stupid.

Let’s say we bring all the troops home. Right now the troops are employed. Bring them home, we increase the rate of unemployment. End the war and every company which makes bombs, bullets, rations, artificial limbs, uniforms, tanks, hummers, grenades, backpacks, ships, jets; every company that builds roads, electric plants, hospitals, schools, in short everything we destroyed in Iraq, would be out of business and the economy would suffer even more.

Okay, so for the sake of employment, hell let’s start a few more wars. Come on, look at the past. Hitler was the best thing to ever happen to our economy. He ended the depression. And the cold war was good for business too. Not to mention how many people the Korean and Vietnam wars employed.

But we must move on.

Why am I for strict drugs policies? I am getting tired, so let’s make this quick. Think about all the people who are employed who fight the drug war. Think of all the people employed building prisons; think about all the people employed by prisons. Think about all the people hired by rehab programs. Think of all the people employed in Mexico and South America producing and distributing drugs. You think our immigration problem is bad now? Legalize drugs and how many jobs have you wiped out in Mexico, thus increasing our immigration problem.

And you want to make drugs legal? Do you know how many jobs we would lose? Do you know how many lawyers who defend anyone caught with drugs would be unemployed?

By the way, we must also keep the drinking age at 21. Think how many people have jobs due to our underage drinking laws.

This is all to say that I can be obtuse at times and fail to see the larger picture of how silly wars and silly drug laws actually help the economy. Mea culpa.

Oh yes, one more thought – if we simplified the tax code, how many jobs would that eliminate? It is all about the economy baby and don’t ever forget that.
