Tips for Increasing the Storage Space in Your Closet

The one problem with closets is that you are pretty much stuck with the space you’ve got, and once you’ve filled it up, you’re done, right? Wrong. There are a number of tips and inexpensive products that can enable you to easily increase the storage space of any closet.

Firstly, you’ve got to examine the current contents of your closet and see what could be organized better. Large, heavy items that don’t get utilized often can be kept in the back and the bottom, and some items can be placed inside others as well.

The key to better closet organization is consolidation in a neat manner. Simply throwing a bunch of non-related items together in one container just makes it difficult and annoying to find them later. Sometimes, many of us take a large amount of small items and place them altogether in a box. While this may serve to keep things more organized, the box itself can take up vital space. To remedy this, you can take a hanging plastic shoe bag and hang it on the inside of the door. This will provide a large amount of storage space in a compact manner, make it easier to see and find specific items, and certainly clear up a lot of space within the closet itself.

There are plastic shoe bags that can hang through the whole length of the door, but another idea might be to purchase one half the size, and then utilize wire or clear plastic racks on the remainder of the inside of the door to hold items such as books, DVDs, and other similarly flatter items.

Many other items and supplies can be easily consolidated within the closet by using clear jars for small items, and empty luggage for larger, bulky items such as winter clothes during the spring and summer months, or extra blankets and comforters not in use.
