The Best Free Internet Crossword Puzzles

A quick search will reveal many online crossword puzzles. Many of these are free, however, most of them are of a low quality. Fortunately, there are three excellent crossword puzzles that are updated daily or several times a week: the Yahoo! Daily Crosswords, the USA Today Crossword, and the Los Angeles Times Crossword.

Unlike the lesser crosswords, these three are of a professional quality. Besides being well written, they share an excellent software program, which is highly intuitive. In fact, many people will prefer these online crossword puzzles to the old-fashioned type. There are additional features, most helpful being the ability to solve a letter or word should you get stuck.

These three crossword puzzles differ slightly. The Yahoo! Daily Crosswords tend to be the easiest, which can be either good or bad, depending on the ability level of the solver. There is no archive here, so you’ll have to check the page every day.

The USA Today Crossword, which has a three week archive, is updated any day the paper is published. This means every day except Sunday and some holidays. One downside to the USA Today puzzle is that you have to watch an ad before you can do the puzzle, which might be annoying.

Crossword experts will want to check out the Los Angeles Times Crossword, which tends to be the most challenging of the free ones. This is the only one of the three that offers the large sized Sunday puzzles. There is a 30 day archive here, and a new crossword is put out every day.

It’s true that there are other free crosswords, but don’t waste your time on them. These three, with their great quality and superior software, stand head and shoulders above the rest.
