How many calories should I consume to lose weight?
Q: I really need to lose weight (about 12 pounds) but seem to have hit a plateau and have struggled to lose any weight. I currently cycle to work and back home which is over an hour each way(30km in total) and burns 1000 additional calories a day according to my heart rate monitor. On top of this I hit the gym 5 times a week where I usually burn another 1200 calories on average doing either double spin classes or long cycles of 60km on the bikes as I’m training for a cycling holiday. In total I burn on average 3500 calories a day if not more according to my heart rate monitor. I consume about 1500 and never more than 1800 with my daily food intake being Breakfast – 200 caloriesEgg white then a muller yoghurt and a fruitSnackOrangeLunch – 200 caloriesTuna salad – no dressings or mayosnack 150 caloriessmall banana and cereal bar an hour before trainingDinner between 300 and 400 caloriessmall peice of Grilled chicken and veg. Twice a week I will have a dinner of just vegetables and egg whites to try and cut additional calories. Evening snack40 calorie hot chocolate with either a fruit or a scoop of low fat ice cream.I don’t consume any fats or oil and will trim off every bit of fat on meat and chicken and avoid carbs as much as possible. I don’t know if anyone knows of a suitable answer for this. I was a bit reluctant to cut calories as I tend to get dizzy, shake and feel faint when i’m training at my peak. But I am willing to try anything to get rid of this weight.
A: Men no matter what should consume 2500 calories but it should increase in accordance to serious exercises. It should not increase if you are losing weight and you are overly obese. Muscle weighs more than fat on a scale but to keep it regular exercises should keep it trim and toned. If you are experiencing a level out period it may be time to do more, this is common. In fact it is easier for fat/obese people to loose more than anyone not so fat. Up your exercises slightly with cardio and weight. Cycling is far better than running and so is swimming because it uses all your muscles.Rotate your diet so that you are eating good food that will help with the vitamins that it contains. Lentils, beans, broccoli etc If you are feeling dizzy it is time to up your intake of food with essential vitamins and minerals. Meat live venison is lean and a good source for iron etc Do not over do it with cutting things out like fat from meat, remember that it is also good for you if exercising.Go see a dietitian and physical trainer for a consultations for the best possible input and output to your training and long term comitment
How many calories in…?
Q: Me and my friend are working out how many calories we eat a day, and she doesnt know hers. this is what she has in ana average daybreakfast- 2 slices of bread with chocolate spreadWaterDinner- Ham sandwichOrange squashLunch- 2 chicken fillets and a handful of chips.Cup of cokeSnacks:Pear2 bars of chocolateA tin of tunaAnd is this normal for a 14 year old girl. My friend is classed as overweight, this is what she eats on an average day, and she does a decnt amount of exericse. Why?
A: A lot of these answers seem to be advertising rather than helping you understand your question. You can research roughly how many calories you eat on the internet, so I’ll leave you to do that, or other answerer’s. This is a good site:http://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/calories/calorie_counter.htmI just wanted to say that those foods that contain a lot more carbohydrates tend to have more calories. I noticed that your friend seem to have a lot of bread, which is good for keeping up energy but not good if you want to reduce calories. Don’t get me wrong, a high carb breakfast is good to get you going, but cutting back on the carbs in the rest of the day will help her lose weight. Also, she needs to calculate her BMR, this will tell you how many calories she burns in the day just by staying alive; then she needs to see how many calories she consumes in the day. If she consumes the same amount she burns, her weight will not change. Here’s where you can do that:http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/At this age, it is important to eat healthy – she doesn’t seem to eat a lot – it’s just that she eats foods that are high in calories. If she replaces SOME of these foods with healthier (although less appealing) options, this may benefit her.Hope this helps. x
