is it normal to spot and cramp during first trimester of pregnancy?
Q: i’m 36yrs old and a mother of two healthy boys teenagers. i’m pregnant for the third time after 14 years…the first day of my last cycle was 10/12/07…i began to spot &cramp 11/12/07..it was very light and it stopped…11/15/07, 11/26/07, 11/27/07 i spotted very light again and each time it stopped within an hour or so…it seems to happen after a brisk walk of no more than half an hour or if i’ve been standing for more than a few hours cooking or running errands, which doesn’t seem to be very strenuous work. due to my age, i’ve been told i run a higher risk of miscarriage. i hear that spotting and cramping is normal in some pregnancies, but when is it too much…i am aware of the difference between bleeding and spotting and bleeding has not occurred…perhaps i just need some reasurance because i am thrilled over this pregnancy and would be devastated would it end up a miscarriage…thank you in advance for any time you spend reading and commenting on my situation..
A: All i know is that while pregnant, the slightest concerns should be communicated with your doctor. I’m 8w pregnant, at week 5 i started spotting and cramping, it scared me, so i contacted the doctor, they asked me to go to ER. after an Ecography (or sonography) they said everything was fine, but since i’m blood type -ve, they needed to give me a shot (whithin 3 days of the spotting) to protect the baby. so, if you’re also type -ve, contact your doctor/midwife.Good Luck and Gongrats.
Are cramps normal during the first trimester of pregnancy?
Q: I am about 6 weeks and have still been having cramps. They aren’t constant, but come a few times a day. Is this normal?
A: I had some cramps and a little spotting early in my pregnancy. I had an early ultrasound that showed the placenta was blocking the vagina. The doctor told me not to worry since this was common and usually the placenta moved up during the rest of the pregnancy. We kept an eye on this and it did but the cramps for the time were a pain! Check with a doctor, it can;t hurt and it might help. Good Luck and Congratulations!
