Q: my mom claims she didnt have a period when she was pregnant with any of her kids, but i guess my grandmother did (not sure if it was with one kid or all of them). could i have a normal period when i’m pregnant? is it bad to have one during pregnancy?
A: It’s not too uncommon to bleed during pregnancy, but if this happens you will need to see your doctor ASAP to be sure there’s not a problem. The more you bleed, the more urgent it is to get checked out quickly. Some women have regular periods or just spotty bleeding all through their pregnancies and are just fine.

Ive decided not to take tablets for them because ive heard they are good for the baby but they are starting to really get to me and i think are gettin worse each time i get one! Also i have had a little redy/browny blood on my knickers and when i wipe with a small pain in my right side. Anybody got any advice?thanks <3
A: You need to make sure you’re getting enough fluids. Sometimes headaches happen even if you are hydrated though. When that happens to me, I get an ice pack (I have a nice one, it’s cloth and filled with buckwheats and scented with lavender) and I lay down slightly elevated on my back with the ice pack on my neck. The cloth packs are nice, they usually don’t need wrapped. I keep the pack on my neck for about 20 minutes. I also refuse to take anything for the pain although the dr tells me reg. strength tylenol is ok. I don’t know how you feel about caffeine, but that can help with headaches as well. My pharmacist even refuses to take any pills…she chose caffeine over the tylenol as well.As for the spotting, as long as it remains a dark color (brownish redish) and you’re not having severe cramping you should be fine. However I’m sure you’d feel even better talking to your dr about it. Some dr’s will send you for an early ultrasound to determine what is causing the spotting. It is very normal to experience some spotting early on in pregnancy. If you begin to have bright red spotting accompanied by severe cramping call your dr right away.Best wishes.
