No, not if put in right. And even then, it doesn’t hurt. It may feel slightly uncomfortable. If you feel uncomfortable, take it out and try again. And only try when you are actually on your period, ok?

I had a big problem with tampons at first. They hurt, I could feel them, and you are not supposed to be able to feel them. If this is happening, don’t use them. Now this doesn’t happen to me any more, but I decided still not to use them. It…

Does it hurt to put a tampon in for the first time?
Q: This might sound really stupid, but how do you put a tampon in and does it hurt? I know there’s instructions on the box but does it hurt to break your hymen, or whatever it’s called? And for a really, really heavy flow, how long should it be left in for? I’ve never used one before but I might have to today. Thanks! And does it hurt while it’s in?
A: well let me see. The first time I used one was about 8 years ago. I did not have a hymen. Some people dont. But I heard if you do, you wont even notice it breaking becasue you are already on your period. Im not gonna lie. It hurt VERY bad, the first time I used it. Probably becuase I was so nervous and tense though. Be sure to relax, after the first couple of times it didnt hurt anymore. You should only leave your tampons in for about 4 hours. Any longer makes you more suspectible for TSS. If it is really heavy, you many need to change it more often. You also shouldnt sleep with it in, although I do sometimes. Once the tampon is in, it does not hurt. In fact you dont even notice it there. If you didnt put it in far enough, it may hurt though. In that case you will have to take it out and put a new one in. Also if you take the tampon out too soon and it is still mostly dry. It may hurt a little coming out. But all in all, tampons are much more easier and comfortable to use than pads.
i just put a tampon in for the first time this morning, is it suppose to hurt a little? How far does it go in?
Q: This morning i got my period for like the 5th time, i decided i should start wearing tampons. I put one in and a little bit was showing, then i left the in and then i got another and put it in a bit farther and it still hurt a bit, but then later i pushed it in farther and it got better. Then it started to hurt a bit. How far is it suppose to go in?
A: Not far at all, because it may be hitting your cervix when u move certain ways. Where the string connects to the tampon should be right at the entrance. Its an easy reference point for you to remember. This place where the string attaches should not go inside the vagina much at all, just barely behind the entrance. Any farther and your just stretching urself more. And it has been found that tampons put too far in can cause leaking problems.
