What is the Differance Between Namebrand Clothes and Wal Mart Clothes?

Last weekend I went to the mall with some friends. We walked into Hollister, in which I have never been in before, and I saw the prices of their clothes. I was in shock! I saw a shirt that was 30 dollars! Later we walked into American Eagle. Their jeans were close to 40 dollars! Now I have nothing aginst these stores, it’s just their prices! Wal Mart’s jeans are under 20 dollars. You can also get a nice shirt for under 10 dollars.

Lets say you have to pick between two outfits. Outfit A is the name brand clothing, which would add up to close to seventy dollars. Outfit B is the Walmart clothing. This would add up to about thirty dollars. There is a forty dollar differance in the two outfits! Is forty dollars really worth it? Are there really any major differances in the two outfits?

So which outfit do you chose? If you are the teenager you would pick outfit A because it is the “cool” thing at school to have all name brand clothing, and if you don’t, you are worried about fitting in. If you were the mom buying the clothing, you would pick outfit B becuase it is less money, and you know that a forty dollar differance really means a lot in this economy. But what about your child fitting in at school? It really is a tough choice.

But once again…. are wearing the name brand clothes worth it? Or are they just displaying that you are rich enough to buy an outfit for 70 dollars? Maybe they are, maybe they are not. It really depends on your point of view.

Now some people might argue over the quility of the two clothings. Personally they seem to be the same quility. Also, some of my friends have had experances were their Hollister clothing has ripped. I’m I saying that Wal Mart clothing doesn’t rip? No, it probably does after you were it a lot and such. But this goes to show that name brand clothing is not the most durable thing in the world either.

So overall, I would have to say that they are the same type of thing, and that you are just paying for the name. But this isn’t just for clothing. It happens with shoes, cars, even food. So does this mean that America is a culture of “Doing what ever everyone else does so we can fit in?” Well, maybe yes and maybe no. Only time will tell.
