True Christmas

The midnight sky so high above

Holds one special star, brimming with love.

It’s the brightest and boldest to any eye.

Outshining the rest, and let me tell you why.

Over the grassy hills and into the night,

The cattle are mooing with great delight.

For what they have witnessed we dare never beat.

A miracle quite worthy of a front-row seat.

A tiny baby all swaddled in rags,

Would appear to look meager and sad.

A sinful body would neglect the sight.

But this was our savior, born that very night.

What a glorious moment that will transform life!

A humble carpenter Joseph peers down at his wife.

For she, we call Mary, holds the promise of her task,

A newborn savior whose forgiveness we will ask.

Now back to that star, a landmark it will be.

For three wise kings shall follow its lead.

On camel, by foot, they trudge through desert sand,

Embarking on a journey through the Holy land.

With honor, adoration, and humble bliss,

Three wise men have arrived, bearing gifts.

Gold, frankincense, and myrrh were fitting for a king.

Glory to Him in the highest, the angels will sing.

Each year we look forward to Christmas once more,

The children can’t wait to open presents galore.

Often forgetting about that shining star above,

That led to the glory and honor of eternal love.

So as the season approaches, may we never ignore

The celebration of the precious baby Mary bore.

Amidst cookies and wrappings and ornamental bling,

May we count our blessings and celebrate our king!
