Top Ten Ridiculously Silly Movies

Sometimes you’re just in the mood for a crazy, silly movie. You’ve had a stressful day, and you don’t want to think about anything serious. You just want to sit back, laugh and have a good time. These silly movies are just what you need to clear your mind of any serious thoughts. Here are my choices for the top ten ridiculously silly movies of all times.

1. Due Date (2010). Due Date happens to be just about my favorite ever. If I’m ever sad, or feeling down, or just really want a great laugh, I’ll watch this movie. It’s one of those crazy silly movies that you can laugh at over and over again. Robert Lee Downey, Jr. plays Peter, a guy who has anger issues and gets mad about just about everything. He also has a temper. His wife is about to have a baby, and he is heading back home to join her for the scheduled C-section delivery. Unfortunately for him, he runs into Ethan Tremblay (played by Zach Galifianakis), and his life is changed forever. Ethan causes him to be removed from his plane home and banned from future flights. During the process, he loses his wallet so is totally at Ethan’s mercy for a cross-country road trip. Asides from being annoying, Ethan also causes all kinds of problems. However, sometimes the annoying person can actually be a good friend. See what happens in this adventure road trip to California that is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen.

2. Father Goose (1964). Cary Grant has his share of silly movies, but this has to be his best. He certainly didn’t plan on having to help a military operation by watching for Japanese planes on a deserted island. Things get worse when a group of school girls and the teacher are stranded on the island and need his help. Total silliness ensues as he tries to figure out a plan to rescue them and get them to safety.

3. Walk, Don’t Run (1966). Okay, I think I may have spoken too soon.. Walk, Don’t Run is another comical movie starring Cary Grant. In this silly film, Cary Grant is going to the Olympics in Tokyo. However, when he arrives, he needs a place to stay. He decides his only option is to rent a room in an apartment owned by a woman. The lady really wanted a female roommate, but she decides to give it a go. Things get more crazy when Cary Grant’s character decides to rent out part of his room to another man. Poor girl! Now she’s found herself with two male roommates instead of one, and they are driving her crazy! What’s a girl to do?

4. Arthur (1981). Dudley Moore is just about as silly as they come in this funny movie. He costars with Liza Minnelli as a rich, spoiled adult child who has never worked a day in his life. It’s all pretty funny until he is faced with a major life decision: he either has to marry the bride chosen by his family, or give up his fortune and marry a poor girl.

5. Arthur (2011). It’s rare that a remake of a film can be just as good as the original, but Arthur (2011) is such! I was on the floor laughing just as much in the remake as I was in the original. Helen Mirren plays the butler, and even though it was a male in the original, she bears striking resemblance in character to the original person. And Russell Brand actually pulls off the hilarious comic genius that Dudley Moore portrayed in the original film. I recommend watching both crazily funny films!

6. Hot Fuzz (2007). Imagine being a cop and doing your job too well. He’s making the other cops look bad. So, he gets sent to an area where there is no crime as punishment. Well, interestingly enough, things change and all of a sudden he has a string of murders on his hands to solve. This comical movie is extremely funny. Just think of everything going wrong with your life that possibly can, and you’ve got this cop character’s story down to the tee.

7. Harvey (1950). If you think you see a six foot rabbit, you might be losing it. That’s what James Stewart’s character sees in the movie Harvey. Funny thing is, his sister also sees the rabbit. Watch the antics ensue as the sister tries to have Stewart’s character committed for being crazy, even though she sees the rabbit as well. A whole series of misunderstandings makes this movie quite hilarious.

8. Tropic Thunder (2008). Just picturing Robert Lee Downey, Jr., in his role in tropic thunder makes me laugh. He certainly makes the character believable. Think of a group of guys dropped into the jungle to make a film about war. However, they end up getting in a real war in this jungle, and people start really dying. The movie’s plot and characters are so ridiculous, that you can’t help but laugh and laugh!

9. What About Bob (1991). Bill Murray needs some help. He is afraid of germs and afraid to leave his apartment. He seeks the help of a therapist played by Richard Dreyfuss. Dreyfuss goes on vacation, hoping to escape Bill, but Bill follows him there. Dreyfuss ends up having to help him while on vacation, and gives him helpful advice just to shut him up. However, the advice turns out to be genius, because Murray’s character starts to improve. Dreyfuss’s family likes Murray’s character. But Murray is driving Dreyfuss crazy, and he starts becoming the one with the problem. This movie is so funny you can’t help but to laugh!

10. Groundhog Day (1993). Bill Murray gets to catch another spot in the top ten with the movie Groundhog Day. Here, he gets to repeat the same day over and over until he gets it right and wins the girl of his dreams. What’s funny is that if an average joe gets enoug chances, he might finally get the girl. Since he has the opportunity to learn everything about her each day, and to see how she’ll respond to different things he does, eventually he’s going to find out a way to melt her heart.
