Too Cold to Ride

Here we are. Suffering through the harshness of winter where I am forced to hide my motorcycle in a dark place, my building in the back yard, where I store all my junk. I know that empty seat is just sitting there taunting me to sit and ride, but as soon as the thought enters my mind I immediately realized it is a frigid 26 degrees outside and sadness fills me once again. I am now half way through this winter and I have actually been able to ride a couple of times, but nothing to really fill the void of the freedom that I miss.

Whenever there is a nice winter day, if you can refer to any winter day as nice, I will bundle up and go for a ride. I am a rider that generally doesn’t wear my helmet, but I will wear it when it is cold. Being bundled up and wearing my helmet disguises my freedoms on the motorcycle to a degree. As I ride in this manner I enjoy my ride, but I yearn so badly for the change in the weather.

I do, however, take care of my motorcycle throughout this reoccurring dark age that we all refer to as winter. Whenever I go out to the building I climb on and start her up. I’ll let her run for a while while I do what I need to in the building. I also sit atop her and daydream that it is a beautiful sunny day and I can ride freely again. Yes, it’s silly, but it helps me cope. This also allows me to keep the battery charged and the gas from getting too stale from just sitting there.

I usually also take advantage of this opportunity to have any work done to my motorcycle that I may need done. As bad as winter is, it is a great time to get your motorcycle painted, engine worked on, or any large maintenance job you may need done that would take away from your riding time during the warm months that God created for riding motorcycles.

The only way that I can think to beat the wintertime duldrums is to move deeper south, but I can’t give up the beauty of the Kentuckiana area. I am aware, however, that every area has its own beauty, but I am kindly biased towards Kentucky. I only have about 2 more months to suffer through before I will be able to ride and be totally free once again. Until then I will take whatever I can get.

For now I can only suggest bundle up and Ride!
