The Shunning

With Katie’s heartthrob, Daniel Fisher (David Topp) mysteriously vanished in bewildering circumstances the odds was clearly against her parent’s marital suitor for her -in person of the new bishop!

Pretty Katie Lapp (Danielle Panabaker), had been brought up to be a devout Amish woman within a strict community of adherents. But she had struggled with internal identity crisis within herself.

From the New York Times bestseller Author Beverly Lewis comes this made-for-TV (DVD) adaptation of her book about the many shades of responsibility, love and spiritual etiquette.

Katie could never come to terms with her affinity for “English” songs, as well as why her guitar had to remain out of sight(she was forbidden to use it) in the barn away from her loving parents.

But when a smoldered piece from Laura Mayfield-Bennett (Sherry Stringfield), the affluent city-slicker’s letter turns up among the remains of their fireplace; a decisive game of domino was set in motion which would take her outside of the shelter of the community in other find answers to her many questions.

The Shunning clearly echoes an irrational punishment upheld within the Amish community, obviously adapted from Apostle Paul’s Epistles but religiously misapplied.

The real drama then ensues unveiling the truth from the past after pitching maternal instincts in a showdown with mundane codes and creeds! Whereas personal forgiveness, repentance and Divine release in love is the needed spiritual antidote for a failing heart.

Although there are many unqualified mothers, yet majority of the qualified and devoted mothers would give a hearty thumbs-up to cheer Halle Berry’s recent custody battle triumph!

In conclusion, The Shunning definitely brings to mind a thoughtful quote by Oswald Chambers. …

Beware of obeying anyone else’s obedience to God because it means you are shirking responsibility yourself!

It is always important to remember that Salvation is a work of Grace and not merit . Besides the power of forgiveness is as reinvigorating as blood is to the heart!
