The Shakespearian Sonnet on Writing a Shakespearian Sonnet

Ta dum, ta dum, ta dum, ta dum, ta dum,
It is that which they have said that the sonnet be
Do not be shocked or afraid, be not so glum
As to yell and say surely not for me.
The best it’s not, but look I’ve rhymed ‘b’ to ‘b’.
The way to write this thing one must do some
Real intense and scheming rhyming ‘a’ line double, foresee
Now, I introduce the troubling and boring ‘c’ line.
I should be careful picking, it will thrice whine
Its rhyme. If truly you need a rhyme search using
the engine Yahoo but not Google, the first is divine.
We are now done with each ‘c’ now ‘e’s coming
It is so sloppy and poor and just to blot
But you now know the Bard’s sonnets the worst are not!

Once you read this I suggest searching ‘sonnet’ and ‘iambic pentameter’ on your preferred search engine.
I personally like Answers.com’s explanation of both these things. Before reading about those terms on Answers, I had no idea how to write a sonnet. Now, I do. Well, technically.
