“The Prestige” Movie Review

“The Prestige” begins with a death, which Alfred Borden was accused of murder. Borden is on trial for murdering fellow magician Robert Angier.

Both leading men play narrator in this behind the scenes magicians’ movie. The back-story begins with Angier going to Colorado to get Tesla to create a machine that would perfect the Transported Man illusion.

Robert Angier and Alfred Borden use to work together until Robert’s wife died performing the Chinese Water Torture trick. Angier blamed Borden for her death and vowed revenge. Because of Angier’s acts of vengeance, Borden is forced to retaliate. The vendetta went on for years, which hurt the women in their lives.

The first 25 minutes of the movie is a little confusing and boring, but it is worth being patient. It is hard to take sides in this magical vendetta because both men have their good qualities and drawbacks.

Christian Bale did an awesome acting job. Matter of fact, he does a better job playing Alfred Borden than Batman. However, Bale does a good Bruce Wayne. Hugh Jackman played a clean and classy Robert Angier. The role was made for him.

It is unfortunate that Daniel Davis didn’t have a bigger role in “The Prestige.” It would have been great to see him in a big serious movie role.

“The Prestige” is rated PG-13. There is no nudity or cussing. This is the perfect movie to rent for a stay at home family night. “The Prestige” gets 3.8 out of 5 stars.
