The Law and the Gospel

I’d like to first take you to the Bible; To Scripture: Exodus Chapter 20:1 through 17

1 And God spoke all these words, saying:

2“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

3 “You shall have no other gods before Me.

4“You shall not make for yourself a carved image-any likeness of

anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;

5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve

them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,

6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me

and keep My commandments.

7“You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.

8 ” Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,

10but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you

shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male

servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates.

11For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you.

13 “You shall not murder.

14 “You shall not commit adultery.

15 “You shall not steal.

16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

17“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”

These are the laws that God gave to Moses for everyone to follow. If God were to judge any of us by His righteous standard we would all end up in hell. The Law, however, was not put there so that we would be perfect. It is impossible for us to be perfect. The Law was given so that we’d know what sin is.

Notice I put sin in the singular. A sin is a sin whether it’s breaking one commandment or all of the commandments. In Romans 3 Verse 23 it says, For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Examine yourself based on God’s standard. His standard is the Ten Commandments. Breaking any of those commandments is sin.

For Example: Have you ever in your life told a lie.

I have too.

Have you ever in your life stolen anything… even something insignificant as a paper clip or a pen that didn’t belong to you? You see the size or value of the item in not important. If you’ve taken it without permission, you’ve stolen it.

Me too.

Now comes the biggie… Have you ever killed anyone? The Bible says if you hated someone or called someone a fool you committed murder in your heart. You see God judges your heart, not just the action. So if

you’ve ever wished someone gone it’s the same before God as murder.

That’s 3 for 3.

Let’s try this one… Have you ever looked at someone lustfully? The Bible says if you have then you’ve committed adultery with that person in your heart.

We’re not doing to well: Are we?

Have you ever used God’s name in vain? You know… used it as a cussword? If you have that’s blasphemy.

So we’re all lying, thieving, adulterous, blasphemers at heart. If we were to stand before God for judgment today would we be found innocent or guilty?

Guilty of course.

What does that mean? According to Romans 6 verse 23, The wages of sin (singular) is death . That means if we have one sin on our record we are worth of going to hell. That’s not what I want for you, and God has given us a way out of that judgment. If you read the second half of Romans 6 Verse 23 it says, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus.

Jesus is God come to earth in the form of a man. This God-man, conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin, just as Isaiah predicted so long before. Fully man and fully God who died and rose from the dead, and gave us the free gift of eternal life.

What does that mean to us?

It means that no matter what we do we’re going to hell if we don’t receive the gift that God gives us freely. You see this Jesus, this God-man, paid the penalty for our sins by suffering and dying on the cross. He was pure and knew no sin. He led a completely sinless life. He became sin on our behalf and took our sins to the cross. He died and defeated death by returning from the grave. God accepted His sacrifice in place of our punishment. Jesus is alive, resurrected. As an acceptable sacrifice for our sins, he defeated sin and death. HE IS ALIVE!

Jesus himself said, in John 14 Verse 6, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except by Me.”

So you see, the only way to God is by Jesus, the Messiah.

Mohammad can not help you. He’s not alive any more.

Buddha can’t help you: he’s not alive any more either.

The Pope can’t help you. He puts his pants on one leg at a time just like

the rest of us.

And we are guilty by His word alone.

Mormonism that states God was once a man the achieved godhood can’t help you. They require work to reach godhood. That is not the God of the Bible. God, according to the Bible, created everything by His word alone.

What can we ourselved do about being guilty? NOTHING!

We are saved by faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone, just as it states in Ephesians 2 Verses 8 and 9: For by grace you have been saved, and not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works lest anyone should boast.

You see, after being saved you will be a new person. And that person will do good works but it is not the works that save you. It is Jesus alone; His sacrifice, that saves you.

As it says in 2nd Corinthians Chapter 5 verse 17: If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold all things have become new.

You see: when we receive forgiveness the slate is wiped clean. We are new

creatures. We are saved, forgiven of our sin. No longer are we dead in sin but alive in Christ. As new creatures we strive to do what God wants. Not as a condition of salvation but as a result of our salvation.

If you say, I don’t need salvation because my god wouldn’t send anyone to

hell, you’re half right. Your god wouldn’t send anyone to hell because your god is not the God of the Bible. He can’t send you to hell. Only the one true God can and will send you to hell if you do not receive the forgiveness that He freely gives in Jesus’ sacrifice.

Turn away from sin toward Jesus. Receive the forgiveness. Get on the road to heaven instead of staying on the road to hell. I’m not asking this for any profit. It’s not for me that I’m asking you to seek God through Jesus. It’s for God’s glory. I don’t care if you ever remember my name, but for your own salvation, for your eternal soul, remember the name of Jesus.

HE IS THE ONLY WAY TO HEAVEN.

THANK YOU ALL.

And thank God for giving me this opportunity to pass His word to you.
