The Best Guitar Shops in Tulsa

While there aren’t as many music shops in Tulsa, OK as there used to be – the shops where I bought my first electric and acoustic guitars have both closed down – there are still a number of options for the musically-inclined who like to spend their money locally. Here’s a look at just a few.

Firey Brothers – 516 S. Sheridan

Voted The Absolute Best of Tulsa in 2011, Firey Brothers has been serving local musicians for 33 years, providing friendly service and quality instruments at reasonable prices. If you’re a beginner, they’ve got great packages that include your instrument, gig bag and instructional materials (or amplifier) for $200 and Firey Brothers also has a 90-day layaway plan available at no extra charge. They’ll even restring (and tune) your instrument for you for a small fee, whether you’ve got a guitar, violin, mandolin, ukulele, or dulcimer. Open from 10am ’til 6pm Monday – Friday and until 4pm on Saturday.

Guitar House of Tulsa – 6924 E. Admiral Pl.

If a wall of guitars is one of the most beautiful sights you can think of, then shopping at Guitar House of Tulsa is going to be a pleasure. Guitar House has walls and walls of acoustics and electrics from Fender, Martin, Taylor, Takamine, Jackson and much more, priced to fit almost any budget. Specializing in repairs and lessons in addition to sales, the majority of their experts boast anywhere from 14 – 40 years worth of experience. Come see what’s made them a Tulsa institution since 1964; open from 10:30am – 8pm on Monday and 10:30am – 6pm Tuesday through Saturday.

The Music Store – 9120 E 31st St. Ste C

The Music Store provides some of the best deals and discounts on strings, music lessons and instrument sales and rentals in town. With half-hour lessons at just $13 each, strings at nearly 50% off and free repairs available on rentals for school band, the Music Store is a good friend to any musician or parent of a musician with finances to consider because whether your budget is $100 or $1000, they’ve got something for you. For fast and friendly service, stop by from 10am – 7pm Monday – Thurday, from 10am – 6pm on Friday or 10am – 5pm on Saturday.

Guitar Center – 9919 E. 71st. St.

Now, Guitar Center is part of a chain rather than being locally-owned and that’s the biggest reason it finds itself at the bottom of this list. However, money you spend in town still benefits the local economy more than money you spend online, so I’m going to include them anyway. Plus, they do have quite a selection of instruments and stay open later in the evening, which, sometimes, can be a godsend. Check them out Monday – Thursday from 11am – 9pm, Friday from 10am – 9pm, Saturday 10am – 8pm and Sunday 12pm – 7pm.
