The Best Free Wi-Fi Spot in Malta: Cafe Juliani

Whether you’re in Malta for vacation or business, there’s nothing you need more than a really good, free, high-speed Wi-Fi spot when you want to connect with the Internet while you’re out and about. Right now, I’m writing this to you from the best free Wi-Fi place in Malta: the Cafe Juliani at the Hotel Juliani in St. Julian’s, Malta. Here’s why I like it so much.

The Wi-Fi Works

The Internet connection at the Cafe Juliani consistently works. So far, I’ve never had to ask for help connecting to it. Just go to reception in the cafe where you enter the hotel, tell the staff that you’ll be eating there, and ask for the login information. They will hand you a coupon with the username and password. Turn on your laptop and log in to the Hotel Juliani site that automatically comes up on your browser. If need be, you can even recharge your laptop there in the cafe.

It’s Comfortable Here

The Cafe Juliani is very nicely furnished and classy. If it’s not busy, no one seems to mind if you take a large table for just you and your laptop. When you want to take a breather from the Internet, you can gaze out the expansive glass doors at sunny Spinola Bay right opposite the hotel. The bathrooms are clean and pleasant. And the background music is quiet and tasteful. The cafe and lobby are used by business people and well-to-do guests. I don’t ever think I’ve seen any families or children running around in the cafe. In winter, there’s central heating (rare in Malta) and air-conditioning in the hot summer.

You’re Welcome to Use It

All you have to use the free Wi-Fi is to order a cup of coffee or tea at the Cafe Juliani. You can stay here for a good couple of hours and no one pesters you to leave. The waiters are friendly, like to get to know you if you come in often, and will ask you if you want to order anything else once in a while, which is completely understandable.

The Food Is Good If You Want It

If I’m at the cafe around lunchtime, I will often get something to eat. The cafe offers a variety of light meals and pastries. I usually get the edamame soya bean dip that comes with spicy pita bread and lots of carrot and celery sticks (3.95 Euros, or about $5.20). It’s enough for two. English Breakfast tea is 1.80 Euros ($2.40), and a cup of Americano coffee is 2 Euros ($2.63).
