State of the Union Address During a Period of Distress

COMMENTARY | President Barack Obama has a State of the Union Address, scheduled for Tuesday night in Washington. This will be his third State of the Union address since he has been in office. According to his campaign website, his speech will be focused on an economy that “works for everyone.”

The third State of the Union Address is set to be a plan. This plan will be how Obama believes America can shape its future. The plan he is putting in to action over of the next 10 months is catering to American jobs and the economy. He will talk about a more focused country that has values in mind. A country that with equal share workloads and can achieve higher education and prosperity.

His web video indicates that he is calling the country back to a time where making items in America was the norm. Jobs here in America equal less outsourcing. He is calling for companies to employ American workers. He also sounds sincere in that a country with a central focus can create this vision. The vision is for a well-educated and responsible American worker.

He will focus on how he intends to promote more alternative energy sources. Also, how he plans to make education more readily available. But his video also does seem to hint to taxes. He does mention “fairness” and that “everyone plays by the same set of rules.” This goes along with the higher taxes for the wealthiest of families.

What I also found interesting is that he mentions this is the “make or break moment for the middle class.” Take my household for example. We are functioning on a one-person income. I would like to hear how he intends to make the economy more stable. This is something that weighs on my families’ minds heavily.

In all, the speech does sound as if it could hit on some very important issues. After all, according to his site, he does boast a 2.6 million private sector job growth during his term. I think the State of the Union address will be worth watching to see what he has in store for us in 2012.
