Simple Halloween Crafts for Kids

Annually, there are 265 days of rain in Portland, because of this; there are several days that the kids will be stuck in the house. Halloween is fun time for crafting because there are several crafts that you can do with the kids to keep them busy. Here are some Halloween crafts that many Portland parents, daycare providers and grade schools are doing for fun.

Pumpkin Painting- Going to the pumpkin patch is an activity that most parents and schools do with the children each Halloween season, most kids are not of the age that pumpkin carving is appropriate, therefore, pumpkin painting is a lot of fun for younger kids. After they have selected their pumpkin, give them some washable paint and let them paint their own pumpkin faces can provide hours of fun. Witch Hats- Using black construction paper, make a cone shape that fits to the child’s head. Staple or glue the hat together so that it doesn’t come apart. Let the kids decorate the hat with stickers, glitter, or other craft items of their choice. Paper Chains- Counting down until the fun day of trick-or-treating is one of the favorite parts of Halloween for most Portland kids. Using black and orange strips of paper show the kids how to glue them together alternating between the colors. Each day, allow the kids to tear off one link of the chain until Halloween gets here. Frankensteins- Cut out several body parts, enough for each of the children, to create their own spooky monster. Let them paste together the body parts however they like. Since it’s a monster, having body parts in various colors will make the project more fun and creative. Ghosts- Ghosts are usually a big part of Halloween. To create your own ghosts, you can either do this with white construction paper or by using wet cheesecloth. Using kid’s safety sheers, allow the kids to cut out their ghosts however they like. Since most ghosts are ominous shapes, there is no wrong or right way to cut one out. Allow the kids to decorate their ghosts with glitter, markers or other craft items. If you are using cheesecloth, use a lollipop to drape the wet cheesecloth over until it dries. This will allow the ghost to have a head and a draping body.
