Sega Genesis: Best Gaming Console I’ve Played

When I sit back and think about all the gaming I have done over the past 20 years, it sure does put a smile on my face. Gaming consoles have been a huge part of my life. It has been something I’ve been able to enjoy with my sister, my dad and my friends for the last two decades. I started out with the original Nintendo and am currently playing the Xbox 360. In between these two consoles there have been a bunch of others.

To start things off, I got my first Nintendo in the late 80’s when I was three or four years old. Then my parents got me the Sega Genesis in 1991 at the age of six. From there I moved onto the PlayStation and then the PlayStation 2. As of now my console of choice is the Xbox 360. I have so many great memories with all of these consoles, but the one that sticks out the most would have to be the Sega Genesis.

When I think back to my Sega days, nostalgia takes over. It was the most fun I’ve ever had gaming in my life. I remember staying up all night with my best friend and younger sister and just gaming until we couldn’t keep our eyes open. Great games like Toe Jam and Earl (my all-time favorite game), Sonic the Hedgehog ,Road Rash, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Gain Ground, The Shining Force, and all the NHL’s. What made this so good were the time period of my life and the simplicity of these games. Five buttons A, B, C and a pause and select. Most of these games were scrolling screen and you just kept walking to the right to continue on. The music to these games will forever be stuck in my head and to this day I still play these soundtracks on YouTube.

I still have my Sega hooked up along with my Xbox. I jump on it from time to time, especially if my friend Brennan who I grew up gaming with stops by the house, or my sister is in the mood to play some of our favorite classics. They have Sega collections now available on the newer consoles, which is great because it gives a chance for the younger generations to play the games that I fell in love with. For the most part all of the consoles have been good over the years, some better than other. However, the one that will always be special to me and stand out above the rest is the Sega Genesis.
