San Leandro’s Newest Playground, a Dog Park with a View

It is obvious over the years that dogs have not only taken a place in the hearts of many Americans but also in their family as well, as demonstrated in some extreme cases of including them in their wills just like children. So it is no wonder that expectations of wanting the best for their 4 legged companions has also been on the rise.

The California Bay Area recently opened up an enclosed dog park with a spectacular view that is sure to be a treat for both canines and their owners. Located right next to the Marina in San Leandro, offering ample parking is the San Leandro Dog Park. After months of construction on what used to be an off leash area is this aesthetically pleasant addition, right alongside the San Francisco Bay Trail frequented by walkers and bikers for years. This fully functional dog park is flanked by the Oyster Bay Golf Course on one side and a 180 degree view of the bay with the SF skyline on a clear day serving as a backdrop to flights taking off and landing into Oakland Airport on the other.

Like all dog parks or any park for that matter, it is the responsibility of the owners to ensure the rules which are clearly stated at the entrance, is abided. Divided into big and small dog sections, owners can rest assure that their four legged children will be able to romp in a safe controlled environment while having a place themselves to socialize with other “parents” on the benches located throughout the park.

The onshore winds from the bay will usually keep you cool even during those hot days but in those rare occasions where it doesn’t, the gazebo and a 3 tiered drinking fountain will help keep everyone comfortable. The lowest tier for dogs, second for 2 legged children, and the highest for adults is a cute addition showing that they really thought of everything in maximizing the space in this formerly off leash stretch while offering a much needed amenity for regular walkers and bikers needing a break. It would be even nicer if a lawn was added for some extra greenery in the future but for now, they seem perfectly happy getting to play in their own “sandbox” where they will more than likely find a new friend to share their toys with and maybe even schedule a play date while they are at it.
