Rework Your Winter Wardrobe for Pennies on the Dollar

I admit it, I’m a shopaholic. When a new season (or a new month!) rolls around, it’s time to update the wardrobe. Unfortunately, my budget doesn’t agree with this plan. Do you need to prep a summer ensemble for a Winter Wonderland without breaking your piggy bank? Rework
your wardrobe with some fabulously fashionable and cozy pieces to create a whole new you without racking up any credit card debt.

Take On the Tights

Stop hiding those shorts in a drawer when summer ends! For a couple bucks you can turn shorts, skirts, and dresses into warm winter wear with a pair of tights or tall woolen socks. With so many patterns to choose from – like the Worthington Sheer Argyle Tights from JCPenney or colorful Apt. 9 Basic Sheer Control-Top Tights in a variety of colors from Kohl’s – you can stock up on designs to match every item in your wardrobe. And it’s a lot cheaper than buying new pants!

That’s a Wrap

Whether you need to dress up a plain blouse or you bought those gorgeous red pumps but have nothing to wear them with, scarves and wraps are your saving grace. Instead of dishing out cash for a new outfit, pick up a few scarves and a wrap or two in a variety of colors. Look for a breathable material like Overstock’s Peach Couture Maroon Full-size Wrap and pair it with a neutral colored shirt. Match your wrap or scarf with those lovely high heels, throw on a pair of tights to keep your toes toasty, and you’re ready to take on a chilly day in style.

Shrug Into Style

Tank tops, halters tops, and tube tops have a short lifespan limited to the hottest days of the year, but you can carry that gorgeous silky tank or lovely colored halter into winter with a shrug (the clothing, that is.) Choose a long-sleeve shrug with a button front for extra warmth
or a short-sleeve shrug with an open front, such as this Black Knotted Shoulder Bolero from Windsor, to stay cozy at the office.

Jazz Up Your Jewelry

Jewelry is cheap, sparkly, and the easiest way to tie an outfit together. If tired old outfits need a facelift, try deviating from your standard jewelry collection to pieces a bit more daring. Think bold colors, like this Clay and Glass Multicolor Beaded Long Necklace from Overstock, or mix your metals with pieces such as these Kenneth Cole New York “Urban Snake” Mixed Metal Chain Chandelier Earrings from Endless.com. The right jewelry presents a stunning visual that steals the show and brings a dull outfit to life. Think big! Giant rings, hoop earrings, and collar necklaces transform any outfit into a hit straight off the runway.
