Review: Taco Bell Bacon Ranch Chicken Flatbread Sandwich

A couple days ago, I decided to go to the gym (this was somewhat of an unusual decision since I was there the night before and rarely work out two nights in a row). Since this messed up dinner plans a bit, I told my wife I would pick her up something from Taco Bell on my way home.

I asked her what she wanted and she told me to surprise her so, when I got there, I decided to buy the newest thing on the menu. That ended up being their Bacon Ranch Chicken Flatbread Sandwich. I ended up spending the extra money to buy this as a combo meal; something that turned out to be a great decision because the sandwich wasn’t really that great.

When I looked at the picture on the menu, I thought it looked pretty decent. It was basically chicken, cheese and a bacon ranch sauce. And, to be honest with you, I was a bit surprised when my wife didn’t enjoy it all that much. But, after trying a couple bites myself, I found I wasn’t impressed either.

First of all, even if we would have liked this sandwich, I don’t think it was anything special. One thing we have always liked about Taco Bell is they offer a menu that is drastically different than the typical fast food restaurant menu. With this particular item, however, I really didn’t feel the same way. As my wife mentioned, it was a sandwich she could have gotten from Subway or maybe Arby’s. In other words, it wasn’t something that we would have gone to Taco Bell just to buy.

Of course, the fact we didn’t enjoy the sandwich all that much didn’t help its cause. Both of us felt there was a bit too much flatbread and too much sauce and not enough meat and cheese. As I said before, I was glad I got her the combo meal because, without the extra food, there is no way this would have been enough for her (especially with me trying a couple bites of it).

I normally don’t complain too much about any of Taco Bells products but this was one menu idea I feel was a bit of a mistake both because it isn’t original and the execution (at least on the one I got) was sub-par at best. If you go to Taco Bell, I would recommend pretty much anything else on their menu before I would recommend this.
