My wife did a bit of grocery shopping and, even though she mainly picked up the things we needed (like dinner), she did surprise everyone by bringing home some dessert too. In this particular case, dessert consisted of a package of Nabisco Oreo Triple Double Neapolitan Cookies.
Her and my daughters all love Neapolitan ice cream so this purchase was really no surprise to me. However, this was the first time I had even heard of this particular cookie and I was definitely interested in giving them a try. So, after dinner (I never try to ruin my appetite by sampling dessert first), I handed a couple of these out to the kids and then gave one a try myself.
While I did like the cookies, I did find myself being somewhat disappointed by them as well.
The cookies aren’t terrible. They consist of chocolate and strawberry cream in between three vanilla cookie wafers (one is in the middle of the cookie and separates the chocolate from the strawberry). This gives the cookie three distinct flavors; though the strawberry and chocolate are the most noticeable. And, like Neapolitan ice cream, you can either experience them at once or, if you take the cookie apart first, separately.
Because of the extra cookie wafer, I did find these cookies to be more filling than expected. This is actually a good thing too because I am trying to watch how much junk food I eat and I figure it’s always better to have less cookies in one sitting.
My only complaint about these cookies is I don’t know if I’m that big of a fan of the three layer approach. As I mentioned before, the vanilla cookies really aren’t all that noticeable when you get the chocolate or strawberry cream and I do think the company would have been better off creating a regular Oreo cookie (with the vanilla wafer) with three different creams inside; layered like you would see in a bucket of Neapolitan Ice Cream. Or, of course the ultimate cookie would be one that combined chocolate, vanilla and strawberry both in the wafers themselves and the cream.
Despite this, I do think this was a decent enough product. I don’t know if it is something I would buy on a regular basis but, if you are looking for something that is somewhat different, it is worth trying; especially if you can find them on sale like my wife did.
