Review: Minute Rice Ready to Serve Chicken Flavor Rice Mix Bowl

I went home for lunch today with absolutely no idea what I was going to end up eating. In fact, when I got home, I wasn’t even sure if there was anything worth eating in the house (we really need to do some grocery shopping).

After doing some searching, I came across a Minute Rice Ready to Serve Chicken Flavor Rice Mix bowl. It didn’t look like much but I was running out of time and decided to give it a try.

My wife actually purchased this product a couple weeks ago and had given it a try before I did. When I asked her about it, she said it was OK but it wasn’t anything overly special either. After trying it for myself, I found myself in complete agreement with her.

There were a couple things to like about this product. One of the main ones is it was easy to make. All I had to do was remove the plastic covering and put it in the microwave for one minute. Considering I was in a rush by the time I even found this item, I did appreciate the short cooking time. However, I will caution you, the rice (and the bowl) gets very hot in that short amount of time. It took about five minutes for it to cool down enough for me to actually eat it.

Also, I was a bit surprised by how filling this product was. I wouldn’t recommend having it as the only thing you are eating (like I did). But, if I were having it as a side dish (which I think is what it was meant to be), I would not have any issues with the quantity.

When it came to taste, as I said before, it was OK but nothing to write home about either. It was supposed to be chicken flavored (and, according to the packaging, it was an “improved” flavor). But, I couldn’t taste chicken at all when I ate it. In fact, other than the last couple bites at the bottom, I didn’t even taste salt on the rice; something I normally expect to taste with products like this. The rice was just bland tasting.

If you are looking for something convenient as a side dish, this is something I would recommend (assuming you are only making enough food for one person). But, I would also recommend finding something to go with it that will make you ignore the lack of taste.
