Review: Dream Fields Healthy Carb Living Spaghetti Pasta

As I mentioned in another review, I decided to make spaghetti for dinner last night. And, because I didn’t have any ingredients (other than hamburger), I ended up running to the store after work.

One of the things I needed was spaghetti pasta and, as always, I went into the store planning to buy the cheapest brand I could find. However, as I was standing in that section looking for the store brand, I happened to see another brand of pasta, Dream Fields Healthy Carb Living Spaghetti.

As you might have guessed from the name, the claim on the box was the spaghetti pasta had less carbs and, therefore, was much healthier for me. Even though my doctor has told me I need to cut back a bit on my carbs, I probably wouldn’t have given this product a second glance. However, it turned out to be almost as affordable as the store brand was so I decided it was worth giving it a try.

I should mention to you that I have tried other “healthy” pastas in the past and haven’t always been a big fan of them. I hate whole-wheat versions and some of the other lower carb versions I’ve tried seemed to lack something when it came to taste. So, even though I decided to try this product, I honestly had some doubts about it.

As it turns out, my doubts were unfounded.

I was trying some of this pasta before the sauce I was making was even done and, when I did that, I was expecting to notice some sort of difference in taste. I didn’t. It tasted just like regular pasta. I wouldn’t say it was the best pasta I’ve tried. But, it was decent enough when compared to other brands of pasta in the same price range.

Even my kids didn’t notice a difference. And, believe me, as picky as my oldest daughter is, she would have been the one to notice if something was off about the flavor. But, as always, she ended up having two servings.

I don’t know if this is a brand I would buy on a regular basis. But, if I ever get to the point where I insist on using a low-carb version of pasta, this is a brand I would definitely consider buying again; both because I didn’t have to sacrifice taste and because it didn’t cost me any more money.
