“Covert Affairs,” Season 2, Episode 16, “Letters Never Sent,” begins with Annie and Danielle going on vacation in Stockholm to help sooth big sister from finding out that her husband in cheating on her.
Naturally things go wrong. Spoilers follow.
Auggie calls in for Annie to do a little something for work. All she has to do is deliver an envelope to a certain gentleman at a trade show reception. Unfortunately this results in peril and threats of mayhem and death as Danielle is mistaken for Annie by an enemy agent with no compunctions about killing anyone who stands in his way of getting the envelope.
It is nice to see that Danielle at last sees first-hand the sort of things her little sister has to put up with in her job. Being hunted down throughout a European capital by a murderous assassin may not be recommended, but it did prove to be a sisterly bonding experience.
Fortunately they are aided in their flight by an old childhood friend, Magnus, who has grown up to be tall, blond, and handsome, which is a great temptation for Danielle who might be looking to pay her husband back. She might have too if she were not in peril of her life.
In the end, Annie has to kill the man who tries to kill her sister. This is the first time she has had to do that and no doubt there will be psychological complications.
There are a couple of side plots.
It seems that Auggie, before the fateful tour of Iraq, bought a 1967 Corvette which he had not been able to drive. He explores the possibility of experimental surgery that would restore his sight. Alas, he is not a good candidate so he gives the Corvette to Annie before going off the Africa to reckon with his girlfriend. This is inconvenient for Annie as she is starting to realize she has true feelings for her computer geek/former special ops handler.
Also, Jai flunks a polygraph that turns out to be a complicated scheme to throw his evil father under the bus and thus position himself in the Agency to go after Joan’s job. He makes one mistake in that he tells Arthur what he intends to do. Ego has gotten in the way of more schemes like that.
