Packers Versus Broncos: Final Thoughts

Some thoughts from yesterday’s Green Bay Packers game against the Denver Broncos:

It was a good weekend to be a Wisconsin Sports fan. In addition to the Packers victory, the Milwaukee Brewers and Wisconsin Badgers also had wins at home. And, that’s not counting the number of high school homecoming games.

I didn’t like Coach Mike McCarthy’s decision to go for it on 4th and 1 early in the first quarter. It was too early to take a chance like that when he was in field goal range and should have taken the 3-0 lead when he had a chance.

The Packers’ defense gave up quite a few deep passes during this game. But, I’m not overly concerned about the Packers’ secondary. Since their shoot-out with the New Orleans Saints in Week 1, the Packers have allowed 6 touchdown passes. But, they also have 8 interceptions. I think, once the pass rush starts finding its mark a little more, you’ll see more turnovers from opposing offenses than scores.

Another thing that is overlooked is the fact the Packers aren’t allowing teams to run on them; allowing just 71 yards per game and one rushing touchdown. This is a big improvement over last season.

I thought for sure I would be writing about Donald Driver and how his knee injury could result in this being his last game with the Packers. But, then he came out in the second half, caught some passes and even scored. Who did they carry off the field and cart to the locker room; his stunt double?

Speaking of aging veterans, Charles Woodson once again came out of nowhere during this game with that interception and touchdown. I’m going to go on record now and say, at very least; he will tie the record for interception returns for a score.

It’s a long season, and I’m not saying this will happen, but Aaron Rodgers is on pace to throw for 5,300 yards and 48 touchdowns.

I think rookie receiver Randall Cobb is a threat to score whenever he catches a pass. It’s still hard to believe he lasted until the very end of the second round considering he would be an upgrade over some starting receivers in the league.

Oh, and did I mention he still leads the league with a 40.3 yard average on kickoff returns?
