No Apple Presence at the CES? No Problem!

One Silicon Valley company that will likely be one of the biggest topics of discussion won’t be at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, but it won’t really matter. Apple Inc. doesn’t even go to the tradeshow that is devoted only to their own products, known as Macworld. Yet some of the most important innovations to come out of the CES can very well be related to an iPad or an iPhone or some other Apple gadget, and you can be certain that the company will have some of their employees in attendance browsing the wares.

Apple quit attending Macworld San Francisco after the 2009 version, suggesting that they didn’t need to show off their products at the annual trade show. Of course we all know that they’re right but it sure would be nice to revisit the days when Apple was a major presence at Macworld and Steve Jobs always seemed to announce the latest and greatest gadget on the planet during the event. But their position was that they do plenty of promotion and advertising in over 350 stores throughout the United States and the world. That’s true but it’s safe to say everyone misses Apple at Macworld. To give you a small sampling of Apple products that were introduced during previous Macworlds, the iMac G5, Safari, iTunes, and the iPhone were all first made public during the annual four day event. For those who aren’t familiar with Macworld, it has been THE tradeshow that celebrates all that is Apple and has had versions in New York, Boston, Tokyo, Paris and London. You can expect to see plenty of Apple developers who implore you to sample their products, informational booths on the latest iPhone and iPad cases, video gaming, seminars, free gifts and prizes and a whole consortium of Mac addicts!

I’ll be attending Macworld San Francisco, scheduled to be at the Moscone Center from January 26-28, as I have faithfully attended ever since its inception back in 1999, well before any one even heard of an iPod. Macworld has actually revised its name to be known now as Macworld/iWorld to reflect the growing interest in the Apple’s IOS and, well anything that starts with an “i”. The event has been shortened by one day but I seriously doubt anyone will notice, especially since the last day has been moved to Saturday and is expected to draw huge crowds and perhaps even bigger than last year’s attendance which also featured a Saturday closing, given the rise in popularity in Apple gadgets. The one drawback to this year’s event is that the expo only option is no longer free for attendees so if you are accustomed to getting in free, you have to open up your wallet this year. We all know it’s worth it.

During Macworld 2012, I’ll report on the event and hope to present some great new products for your collection of Apple products. In the meantime, I will be following the news on the CES, particularly anything that is related to Apple.
