New Primus Album, ‘Green Naugahyde,’ is Experimentally Weird

For not having an album out in 11 years, Primus has outdone itself in weirdness. The king of experimental funk has one of its greatest experiments on their hand, their new album, “Green Naugahyde.”

When I first popped in the new album, I texted Bob Zerull saying, “New Primus album is weird.” He replied saying, “Primus is a weird band.” Weird in this instance translates to great because as odd as Primus is, it’s also what makes them awesome.

Their signature brand of dark funk continues to hold true on “Green Naugahyde” throughout the album. That is certainly a feat for a band that has been around for nearly 30 years. Primus definitely ranks up there with odd artists like Frank Zappa, a legend in his own right.
