National Consumer Panel (FAQ)

1. Purpose

By scanning the barcodes of your grocery, retail, and other products you purchase and by completing their surveys, you are able to make your opinion count. Many companies are contacting the National Consumer Panel wanting to know what people think of their various products. Some times the products have not been introduced on the market yet, but they want to know would you even consider purchasing it. How often have you heard employees say, “They introduced this into our department, but they never asked us how we felt about it?”

2. Surveys

The surveys are not everyday, mandatory, or even on a set schedule. So there is a lot of flexibility here for doing the surveys, should you choose to complete one.

3. Types of Surveys

There are online surveys, surveys in the mail, or surveys can be completed on your home scanner that you receive from the National Consumer Panel.

4. Moving

Moving concerns are understandable. Even though you are moving, you can still do the surveys and transmission if moving within the United States. Just send your new address to [email protected] or call support center at 1 -800-962-6700.

5. Coupon Barcodes

No you should not scan the coupon but you scan the actual barcode on the product.

6. Difficulty scanning

There have been times when a barcode will not scan, possibly because it is blurred, damaged, or too small. Sometimes I have observed this in the grocery store. Cashiers will sometimes have to input the barcode manually.

I had an occasion when I had to call the support center. I was receiving a message of battery low on my scanner. Also, the scanner was not scanning and continuing to cut off. When I called Customer Service, I received a prompt response and was assured my battery would be in the mail. I was also given extra reward points, since my scanner might be inoperable until I received the battery. I was appreciative for this.

7. Scanner Troubleshooting

The scanner will usually turn off in about two minutes, if you are not using it. It does this to save on energy.

8. Product differences

If you have the same products that are different flavors, each product must be scanned separately, because each will have a different barcode.

9. Unsatisfactory Gift

If you receive a reward gift and you have a problem with it, it can be returned within 30 days by calling the Support Center 1-800-962-6700 within 30 day’s.

10. Vacation

If you are going on vacation, just let the National Consumer Panel know this. Let them know when you will be able to resume scanning again.

I have only had one minor problem with National Consumer Panel. I received a gift that actually stopped working within 3 months. I was not able to return it, because it was not within 30 days. Many of the products are from various vendors. I did not have any luck contacting the vendor either. So that was an unfortunate situation. I will take it as a learning lesson. Also, although I have not won, the weekly, monthly, and yearly cash sweepstakes they offer. These are incentives for me to continue with this company. Also, the fact that I believe I have a voice with my opinion.
