My Review of the Sound and the Sea (Griffen Alexander)

At a young age, Griffen knew what he wanted to do with his life. A major influence to his musical career was Third Eye Blind. Starting in a band and progressing into a solo artist, he truly found his voice. One label and albums later he is making amazing music that any- one, age or walk of life can relate to. At some point in one’s life, we have all been there or will be there. That is why the release of, “The Sound & The Sea is important to listen to as you will feel the music move you.

When you sit and listen to a musician play or anyone in their particular element you witness something special. It is seeing that passion and drive by being completely happy in that moment. Griffen without a doubt has the passion for music and the talent as you witness it in this album. It is pure genius. This album is a combination of Jack Johnson melody and John Mayer blues. The best thing about “The Sound and The Sea” is how easy it flows through your mind, body and spirit. Intellectually, it motivates and inspires you to accomplish whichever task you have set out in front of you; whether that is writing a paper, designing a billboard, on a road trip or relieving stress.

I have my own particular favorite songs; which the titles are Hold My Hand, If You Want Me, and Science & Religion. Hold My Hand is a great song to dance to with your significant other after one of those long hard days. It is especially a great wedding song because it gives you the feeling that no matter what they will be there through it all. The first time I heard this song, I immediately fell in love with it. It has a nice tone and rhythm to it, not to mention, the lyrics evoke empathetic emotion. The more you listen to it the more you feel inspired. If You Want Me lyrics and melody are catchy. This song makes a lot of great points. To me it is about whether you are on the brink of a relationship or not, but making the decision is clear to one. We have all been there. It is a great song that relates to the human experience of the relationship process. The melody gets your foot tapping and head bobbing. Pretty soon you are grooving with the music and showing off moves that no one has ever seen before. Science & Religion starts out slower, but it adds flavor to the song and was the right choice of rhythm. To me this song is more of a story. The beginning melody starts out as the initial plot, slowly building to the climax and ending with a cliffhanger. The guitar portion reminds me of John Mayer when he goes off into solo and just leaves you speechless.

Look out world of music, Griffen Alexander is going to be big. Take some time now to go listen to this great revelation of music because it is certainly the 2011 album of the year. Just one more Griffen Alexander melody to make you completely moved and inspired genuinely. As you listen, you will see it too and discover your favorites. The Sound & The Sea is truly a genius piece of work.
