IPhone Apps for All the Holidays

While my life would be most unbearable without the basics, iPhone email, Safari, and “up-to-the-minute news app”, the other apps I use are just plain fun. These holiday iPhone apps definitely add a little more fun to Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter, and the 4th of July. They are all free and very easy to use.

Halloween Sounds Pro. This app provides 16 classic Halloween sounds. It gives you the option to delay when sounds start. Thus it is possible to ‘program’ enough scary sound to last at least as long as it takes for the kids next door to get their candy from you. The sounds are fun for kids, but not too scary; good wholesome scary!

Thanksgiving. An old colleague of mine came up with a funny acronym to use when we heard a useless but true fact: S.I.F. (Stimulating Intellectual Fact). This app fits that bill. It’s loaded with tons of Thanksgiving facts that won’t change the world but will keep you engaged. Each time you shake your phone or touch the screen a new Thanksgiving S.I.F. pops up.

Christmas Radio. It isn’t Christmas without Christmas music. Everyone has different tastes in music which makes this app really useful. It allows you to pick radio stations around the world that are playing the genre of Christmas music you like best.

Valentine’s Word Search. I know, not very romantic for St. Valentine’s Day. But this cute app could keep your kid entertained while you and yours sip a glass of wine. It allows you to pick the word search difficulty and you pick from five love topics. It’s really easy to circle words; just drag your finger across the appropriate letters on the screen.

Angry Birds Seasons: Easter! (Free). It’s Angry Birds. Need I say more?

M.A.S.H. 4th of July. This app predicts your future 4th of July BBQ outcomes. It’s like a modern version of Mad Libs but you don’t have to know what an adverb is. The game lets you pick four foods/drinks, four locations, and four names from drop down menus. It then it asks you to draw a spiral. Using your inputs it predicts a funny 4th of July story about you.
