Improve Productivity in the Office While Coping With Distractions

When working in a busy office, it is often hard to produce quality work when you are interrupted with frequent distractions. A large part of working in the corporate world is learning how to produce your best work, while coping with the distractions, instead of becoming frustrated by them. Here is a look at five ways to effectively cope with distractions in the workplace.

Relax

When I am faced with frequent interruptions or distractions, I often feel myself getting frustrated. Rather than taking everything to heart, I take a breath and try to relax. This can extremely helpful in taking my frustration down a notch, and allowing me to improve my focus. The next time you feel yourself getting frustrated or flustered in the office due to distractions or interruptions, take a deep breath and try to relax. It is often just the thing you need to keep going.

Take a Break

If after you’ve attempting to simmer down, you still feel frustrated, try taking a 5 or 10 minute break. Walk away from your desk and grab a cup of coffee, or just stand outside in the fresh air. A brief escape from the hectic atmosphere of the office is often a great way to rejuvenate your mind and prepare you to take on the task at hand.

Prioritize

If you are getting a lot of interruptions from various sources that require an action from you, it may be time to prioritize your work. However, if the interruption is coming from a co-worker who wants to socialize while you are trying to push through your workload, you may have to let them know gently that you are busy with work-related materials.

Headphones

When all else fails, I break out my headphones and listen to music. I keep the volume on low so I can hear if anyone calls my name or if my phone rings, but when I am focusing on a project, headphones are a great way to block out the background noise in the office and they let me focus on the task in front of me.

Don’t let office distractions frustrate you, instead find a way to work through them with ease.
