Icon for Hire: A Band on a Mission

Icon For Hire made a brief stop at Woodshock Music Festival 2011, just outside of Columbus, Ohio, to rock with some hardcore metal bands and the fans that follow them.

The sun was still blazing and most were hiding from it. Being veterans of outdoor festivals, the undaunted Icon For Hire ventured through the campsites and asked the “metalheads” to join them down front. The crowd may have been a little reluctant at first but were soon captivated by Icon For Hire’s enthusiasm and cascaded toward the stage.

When asked if they were intimidated by a predominantly thrash metal crowd, Adam; the band’s drummer, pointed out that he grew up a Pantera fan and “felt right at home in a place like this.” The magnetic lead vocalist Ariel stated, “They saw our emotion and connected and engaged with us … it works.”

Icon For Hire, like other bands, dreams of making as much money as possible. The difference is, Icon For Hire, would like to “give it away,” according to Ariel. After spending a few minutes speaking with her and Adam, I knew they meant it. Ariel stressed, “I care about people and your heart heals when you help someone else.”

Icon For Hire has instilled this philosophy in their music. They wish to reach people that are troubled and dealing with life’s hardships and empower them to “Make A Move,” which is the title of their burgeoning song and their debut video that was released on Aug. 15, 2011.

Lyrics are written by Swedish born Ariel (singer/songwriter) and the music is created by the band; which includes, Josh Kincheloe; bassist, Adam Kronshagen; drummer, and Shawn Jump, guitarist. They currently reside in central Illinois and Indiana.

Their music marries heavy rock with emotionally intense vocals. Icon For Hire’s music not only appeals to nebulous metal fans but fuses some popular dynamics that reaches a broader contemporary rock audience. Ariel’s compelling voice is one of those dynamics. Their music is energized and at times the electricity appears to flow right out the top of Shawn Jump’s head.

Icon For Hire signed with Tooth & Nail Records , headquartered in Seattle, and will release their first full CD Scripted on Aug. 23, 2011. Since signing, Icon For Hire has toured relentlessly and has worked harder than ever. “You start young again once signed,” explained Ariel.

Icon For Hire is passionate about their music and helping others. Their future looks bright and it is inspiring to see such talented and spirited musicians doing good — especially for others.
