There are very few people who can say that, amongst the stack of board games they own, there’s not one that doesn’t have all its pieces. We never know how a piece goes missing; we just discover one day that all of the pieces aren’t there. Since you’re having trouble throwing the game in the trash, get it out of the closet, and make some new jewelry. A game tile is a great way to create an unusual necklace and there are thousands you could make. So, get the game out, and let’s get busy.
A Scrabble tile can be turned into a cute jewelry piece using any number of necklace designs. Use a blank tile or one with a letter on it. Paint the tile or use it as-is. Although the tile itself makes a nice necklace, when you glue on a trinket, you create something totally different. Glue on a large rhinestone, a square cut from scrapbook paper or cloth, or just put on a sticker. Drill a tiny hole on top of the tile, then screw in an eye hook. Attach the hook to a chain and you’re ready to wear the necklace.
Lots of games have tiles. Use dominoes, Mahjong, Scrabble, or other game tiles, to make just the necklace you want. Wear each tile just as it is or embellish it to your liking. For some tiles, you’ll find it easier to drill a tiny hole from one side to the other. For another tile, you might find it simple to make just one hole at the top. When you drill a hole from one side to the other, though, it’s easy to just slide your chain or cord through it.
Paint a tile gold, silver, bronze, or another metallic color, mount a rhinestone, and you can create an elegant necklace. Paint the tile a neon color, and mount a sticker, to create a fun necklace for a child. Other things you can mount on a tile include a metal monogram, a tiny poem, a picture cut from a greeting card, a metal hardware piece, a painted wooden shape, or even a bracelet charm.
You can completely change the look of the tile if you do something even more unusual. Drill a hole in the bottom of the tile and you can add embellishments that dangle. Once the hole is in place, add hot glue, and you can slide in a set of feathers, a short strand of beads, or another decorative arrangement.
If you’ve got missing pieces to a game that features tiles, yank it out of the closet. You can give that game – or pieces of it – a whole new life, when you turn one or more of them into jewelry. Make a large domino necklace, a small Scrabble anklet, or another piece. You’ll love it and wear it often.
