How to Use Brads in Scrapbooking

Brads come in many different shapes, sizes and colors. Using brads in your scrapbook is fun and convenient. Brads can be used for all kinds of reasons. So how can you use brads to help create better scrapbooking pages for your memories?

First Step

One of the first things that you need to know is how you actually use brads. Brads are pretty simple to use. A brad is some sort of shape attached to two prongs. The prongs are the parts that hold the brad on your paper. You need to have some sort of tool to punch a small hole in your paper. The hole doesn’t need to be very large, just large enough for the prongs to fit through. You can use a paper piercing tool or even an Xacto knife. They even make a brad setting tool that is pointy on one end for you to pierce your paper with and the other end is made for spreading and flattening the prongs. It’s a cheap tool and one of my favorites to use when setting brads.

Parts that Move

Brads are often used to create different moving parts. That’s what they were used for in schools and other work places. Why not incorporate this into your scrapbooking pages. You can create a hide and peek page. You can also try and create a flower that spins. You can create figures or anything else that your imagination can come up with.

Holding Pictures

Brads look awesome in the corners of your picture. No need to even use adhesive when using brads. Match the brads up with a color in your photo or a shape in your photo and place a brad in each corner. You will love the look of your brads on your pictures.

Journaling

Journaling is something that everyone should do when they scrapbook. This is a practice I am trying to do more myself. Sometimes your pictures tell the story all by themselves and other times they don’t which is why you need to journal. One of my favorite ways to journal is bullet points. Brads make awesome bullet points on your scrapbooking page. Since you can pick any color, size and shape they can really enhance your pages.

Shapes

Brads of different colors and different sizes work well in the middle of shapes. Because there are so many different kinds of brads out there you can find one that fits well with your page. If you like making flowers for your pages, brads can work well in the middle of the flower giving it a more realistic look. You will find they work great in the middle of different shapes as well. Play around with different brads on different shapes; you will surprised how fun they are.
