How to Comfort an Elderly Person Who Has Nobody or Nothing

Comforting an elderly person who has nobody or nothing means that you have to be willing to give up some of your own time. Elderly people especially, who have nobody or nothing, like for you to talk to them and listen to what they have to say. So many elderly people are left alone to do nothing, but sit in front of a T.V. all day. Just because people get old does not mean they want to be alone. Everyone needs someone and elderly people are no different. An elderly person who is all alone on a daily basis can get depressed. It’s good to spend time with them and keep them company. Being alone is not a good thing, especially when you cannot get out and do anything or no one comes to visit you. You will see their faces light up when you sit down and talk to them. They feel important again and not forgotten.

Running errands for elderly people are often quite helpful, such as the grocery store, the pharmacy or somewhere that sells something they really want. Most elderly people who have nobody or nothing have no way to get around, but still enjoy the same things everyone else does.

A lot of times, elderly people just eat what’s in the refrigerator because they cannot cook for themselves or they eat sweets, whichever is easy for them. A good home cooked meal would be nice for them. They lack nutrition and vegetables that they are supposed to eat and fixing them something to eat that they would like is a good gesture, as long as it is healthy for them.

Everyone has memories that they keep close to their heart and elderly people also have the same memories. They love to talk about when they were younger and what they did for fun or share stories about growing up with their families. It’s a good idea to make them feel important and not forgotten. You can share old pictures with them of their families and all the memories that make them happy.

Comforting elderly people is not a hard thing to do; it just takes time and a little effort from you to do that. An hour of your time a day to make an elderly person feel happy is not a lot to ask and they will never forget it.
