Five Things to Know About the BCS National Title Games

With the regular season and championship week behind us , now we get to look forward to the National Championship game between LSU and Alabama. So I decided to look at the title games since 1998 when the BCS started to see if there were any fun facts. Here are five things some people might not know.

Alabama isn’t the only one

Nebraska didn’t play in there conference championship game in 2001 , however they still got the nod to play in the national championship game. Oklahoma got beat 35-7 against Kansas State in the 2003 conference title game but still got selected to the national title game. However, both teams lost in the title game.

Margin of win , Seven points or less

There have only been three times that the title game was decided by 7 points or less. However, one of these game is no long recognized because USC title games were vacated.

#1 or #2?

In the 13 years of the BCS national championship , it is 7-6 in favor of the #1 ranked team in the game.

Conference Failure?

The Big 12 has been in the national title game 7 times , however they have only won two national titles in the BCS era.

Home Sweet Home!

LSU has played in two BCS national title games and they had home field in both games with the game being in the Superdome in Louisiana , Also , Florida won one of there two BCS titles in Miami Florida. ( Key note – LSU will be playing there 3rd BCS NC game and it will be in Louisiana yet again.)

As you can see there have been some wild things happening in the BCS National Title games. Maybe the National title game with LSU vs, Alabama can change somethings that have happened in the pass. The one thing it won’t change is the Southeastern Conference reign in college football. I enjoyed looking all of this up and I hope you all enjoy the list.
