Feeling Drowsy? Five Ways to Combat Daytime Drowsines

Do you find yourself yawning before noontime? Do you feel that your coffee isn’t giving you the boost you need in the morning? A busy lifestyle and poor nutrition or sleep habits can cause you to feel drowsy throughout the day. That kind of lifestyle can lead to sleep deprivation or sleep that is of poor quality. According to Dr. Emily Senay, approximately40 percent of people in the U.S. feel drowsy during the day. Lack of sleep is not the only culprit. There are a variety of reasons, such as poor diet or low blood sugar, that can lead to feeling sleepy. Here are five ways to overcome drowsiness:

Drink one to two cups of coffee in the morning. Avoid adding sugar to the coffee as it can lead to a drop in blood sugar later. It is crucial to drink just a moderate amount and to stop drinking it at noon. The caffeine helps you avoid drowsiness for a few hours after consuming it. Drinking caffeine late in the afternoon can lead to insomnia and poor-quality sleep. This will make you drowsy the next day. Consume green tea. If you do not like coffee, drink a mug of green tea in the morning. If you have a dip in energy in the afternoon, drink a cup of green tea. It can improve overall alertness without the huge boost that you would get from coffee. Green tea usually contains 3 percent caffeine. Do not drink it after 4 p.m. Eat breakfast every day. Do so within two hours of waking up. Choose foods that are high in fiber and protein, such as oatmeal and eggs. Eating breakfast daily helps avoid drowsiness by keeping your blood sugar level. It also reduces stress hormones. Both will keep you perkier throughout the day. Listen to energizing music. The exact music depends on what makes you feel energized. Make a playlist of your favorite songs, ones that make you feel energetic and positive, and listen to it whenever you have time to do so. Bursts of music throughout the day can help you to avoid drowsiness. Improve your sleep hygiene. Getting a good night’s sleep is crucial to being alert during the day. It is not just the length of sleep, but the quality of it. Good sleep hygiene encompasses getting to sleep and waking up at about the same time each day. Stop using the computer or watching television at least one hour before bed.
