Daycare Centers. . . Many Things to Consider

In this day and age, being a stay-at-home mom is only a dream for the majority of parents. There are just too many things that stand in the way. Unfortunately in a lot of cases, there is no father present. For most homes where there is a father present, it takes two incomes to survive with rising costs of living and low paying jobs. Daycare centers are becoming a necessity.

When looking for a daycare center, it is imperative that parents really check things out before leaving their children in the hands of strangers.

Are the rooms kept sanitized? Are the children clean? Are there enough adults for the amount of kids? Does the daycare center check criminal histories and references? What are they feeding the children? Are they keeping all bottles and cups put away to keep from infecting each other with germs? Are they keeping the diapers changed to cut down on infections? Is there an early childhood education plan?

These are all questions that need to be asked.

Unfortunately there are many centers that look good on the outside but on the inside there are many problems. I’m talking about the inside as in the quality of care and staffing.

There are reputable daycare centers who are hiring people on the spot to take care of children without checking references, doing a criminal history or anything.

This is a particularly disturbing thought.

I thought I would put it to the test. I went to one of the local busy daycare centers and approached them for a job. They offered me an interview on the spot. Without doing a drug screening, criminal history or reference check, I was offered a job on the spot.

Luckily, I am not a criminal and I do not use illegal drugs. Disturbingly, what if I were? I would have been hired and given free reign over 25 innocent children.

This brings me to a point.

Who is raising our children?

The harsh reality is that the children are in daycare more than with their parents. If they are being raised by a drug addict, Lord only knows what they will turn out to be like.

What kind of treatment are these children getting? Are they being taken care of or are they just placed in a room and allowed to run wild? Are they being mistreated or neglected?

This produces lots of food for thought. I believe a daycare position should be among some of the hardest jobs to get. There are just too many risks with just hiring anyone who walks through the door.

In the end, it’s all about the children. It’s all about their quality of life. It’s about their minds being molded into good citizens.

The children are our future. The future starts with the local daycare center.
