As one of the most popular Christmas cookie desert in any household during the Christmas season, this sugar cookie cut out recipe is very easy to make and includes simple ingredients.

.

Baking Time: 8-10 minutes

Baking Temperature: 350 degrees

Yield: 2-3 dozen cookies

Ingredients:

1 cup butter – salted or unsalted

1 cup granulated white sugar

3 eggs – beaten

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt – if your butter includes salt then you do not need to add as much salt here, just a few extra sprinkles of salt will do

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line baking sheets with parchment paper or grease lightly with cooking spray. If you have never used parchment paper I highly recommend trying it. Makes less of a mess, and you do not have to worry about breaking the cut-outs because you can leave them on the paper to cool, rather than trying to scrape them off of the baking sheet.

Wet Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine butter and sugar, and blend with a fork until well mixed and fluffy. For soft fluffy cookies use soft but not melted butter, for crispy cookies use slightly melted butter. When the butter and sugar are blended together, add the eggs and vanilla extract, and mix well.

Dry Ingredients

In another mixing bowl, combine and stir together the flour, baking soda, and salt. When these dry ingredients are mixed together, add them to the wet ingredients mixing bowl.

Stir all ingredients together until a smooth dough forms. Cover the mixing bowl with plastic and chill for 30 minutes to 1 hour in the refrigerator. I would recommend refrigerating for at least 30 minutes, and you can leave the dough refrigerated for several hours or even a day if you do not have time to make them right away.

When the cookie dough is chilled, it is easiest to section the dough into 3 or 4 equal parts. Roll out 1 dough section onto a floured surface, with the dough about 1/4-inch thick. Cut with cookie cutters and place on prepared cookie sheets.

Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes, or until puffy and light browned on the bottom of the cookie. To cool you can leave the cookies directly on the parchment paper. If you did not use parchment paper, then leave the cookies on the baking sheet for 2-3 minutes until slightly cooled, and then remove them.

Decorate with frosting and sprinkles!
