Chapter 1
The crowd was on its feet. They were waiting for him to appear out of the back. Backstage, Nick was scared because he saw more than a thousand people in the arena. He thought to himself for the last time in High School, I would have never thought that I would survive High School like I did. Just then he felt a big burst of energy. “Nick Manzione!? the principal called. The crowd stood up and went wild as he speed across the stage in his walker. “Mom, I need help, I hate high school, the people are big jerks? Nick lashed out. It was the first day of high school for Nick. He thought of all the bad things that he has heard about going into high school. “Don’t worry, Things will get better over time, I promise? Said Nicks Mom. Before High School, he had be through a lot in his life, but this was something new to him. This was a change to him and he never liked having things change on him. “Stupid Mom, Stupid School? he muttered. The night before that he saw something on the TV about how handicap people get along in the world. He thought to himself that’s what I want to do, I want to fit in with the world. His thought process was suddenly interrupted, “What are you crying about now?? said his brother holding a bottle of water. “I want to fit into the world, I want to show people that I’m not different at all? Nick mentioned. “Hey, I have an idea, show people this? Suddenly Nick found himself with water dripping down his head with his brother getting a kick out of it. Nick laughed about it, he thought that his brother was pretty slick. He came with an idea to get him back. “Ah, nothing does the trick better than shaving cream and a feather.? That night, Nicks plan was all set up. He crept into his brothers room and applied the shaving cream to his brothers left hand. The dog was got happy when she saw Nick and started licking him all over the place. He turned back to see his other brother come at him at full speed grinning at him. “Holy crap!? yelled Nick. He ducked out of the way and role onto the ground. His brother imploded the bed with his splash and his other brother got a rude awaking. “What the hell is your problem? He said all groggy. The other brother responded to him, “I love my brother!? and gave him a giant hug. One kick to the face later, he learned his lesson that he should never go in their while he is sleeping. “You Jerk!? he shouted. “You almost killed me and the dog.? He was right, the dog was cowering in conner scared to move. Where was Nick in all this mess? He ran into his room and went fast asleep. His brother did not know that it was him all along. Nick pulled the covers over his head and brusted out laughing. He had done the impossible, to out smart his very own brother. He felt a sense of success for doing the job, as he was thinking of that, he quickly passed out into the sleeping world. “Nick, Nick, time to get up for school? his Mom rousted him. He did not know what to expect today at school. His Mom said things will improve as time goes on but this was only a small step. “Have a great day and do not be scared of what might come your way? his parents said? When he rolled into the building with his wheelchair, he saw a pretty girl. “Hi Nick! oh I’m so glad that your OK? she said very happily. Nick thought that she was being nice only because he was in the wheelchair. He thought the chair was pretty cool. “I ‘ll be your helper for the year” the pretty lady said. Only one thought went through his head. Could he be lucky, was this heaven? “Uh uh, Hey? Nick said so scared. He went threw the year with this lady helping him and he built a connection with her and Nick had a huge crush on her. She knew that all along and just played along with Nick helping him get good grades that year. On top of that, Nick made some good friends with all the students in his class. He began to think that his Mom was right. Things will turn out to be just great in high school. By the time that the year was over Nick had friendships with just about everyone inside high school. Then came the day when Nicks helper left for the year. “Nick, I’m so happy for you, you survived freshman year.? She said with the biggest smile on her face. “Well, thank you for helping me out throughout the year, I couldn’t have done it without you? Replayed Nick. She gave Nick a kiss on the cheek and there she went. The next few years for Nick in high school were the best that he has ever experienced. He made new friends in the building and even got better grades than he thought. On the night before Graduation, Nick pulled his Mom aside while she was cooking dinner. “Well, Mom, I guess you were right, I did have a great time in high school? said Nick. “See, I told you that you would, and moms never lie to their sons? Replayed his Mom. Nick had a lot of friends that he liked. They were supportive of him throughout the high school years and he was happy about that. He wondered what was next for him and what events will lead him down that road of succession. Nick met up with some of his friends before graduation. “Nick, I cant believe that this is the last day that I will see you, I’m sad. Cried one of his friends. “Don’t worry, all the fun things that we got to do together was great? Nick pointed out. After high school, Nick thought about all the moments of his life. There are moments which he liked and some that he would want to erase from his mind. Just then he wondered if his brother was around.
