Celebrating Valentine’s Day at New York City Bed & Breakfast Inns

During the early 1990s, husband and wife team Glenn Pogue and Monique Greenwood stayed at their first inn and fell in love with the whole B & B experience. The couple decided to bring a B & B in their own neighborhood of Bedford Stuyvesant in Brooklyn. In 1995, they opened Akwaaba Bed & Breakfast Inn. Today, they have additional locations in Washington, DC, New Jersey and a new location opening in Pennsylvania during the summer.

The Brooklyn B & B is located in a 1860s landmark mansion featuring 14-foot ceilings and luxurious fireplaces including a mixture of antiques and Afrocentric décor. The mansion includes four guest rooms decorated in different styles and perfect to suit all visitors. The Jumping the Broom guest room is a perfect romantic get-away featuring a queen size bed and a large Jacuzzi for couples. During the week, the room rate is $185 and $195 on Fridays through the weekend. This B & B offers guests a delicious Southern breakfast and afternoon tea and refreshments.

In the heart of Manhattan’s Chelsea District, there is a family-owned and operated bed and breakfast called The Inn on 23rd . While on vacation, owners Ken and Annette Fisherman, enjoyed staying at B & Bs. In 1998, they decided to open their on B & B in New York City. The Inn has a total of fourteen bedrooms located on four floors in a five-story 19th century townhouse. The unique guest rooms located in this B & B include a 1940s-inspired room, a Victorian room, a Cabin room and a Parlor room. Room rates per night begin at $199 and include a continental breakfast.

The Margot Guest House is near Central Park and the beginning of Museum Mile in Manhattan. Opened in 2008, the affordable B & B is located in a restored 19th century-style house featuring antique doors from France. The House is comprised of six studios which can accommodate three guests. Room amenities include a queen bed and full bath. Rates range from $140 to $185 for double occupancy.

If you would like to experience spending Valentine’s Day in Harlem, then the Sugar Hill Harlem Inn is a definitely a great place stay. This B & B is located in the landmark district of Sugar Hill, in a Victorian-style townhouse that was built in 1906. On the first floor, guests will find two rooms. Satchmo’s Room named after jazz musician Louis Armstrong has a king size bed, a fireplace and an outside deck. Lena’s Room named after singer Lena Horne is considered the most romantic room in the house and perfect for Valentine’s Day. The room features a four-poster bed and a fireplace. The inn also includes two studios with private bathrooms and kitchens and one two bedroom suite. Room rates start at $100 per night.
