Breaking News: Blagojevich Sentenced to 14 Years

Fox TV today announced on America Now that Rod Blagojevich, ex governor of Illinois was sentenced to 14 years of prison by Judge James Zagel.

After all his claims of innocence, Blagojevich’s attorneys finally admitted that in fact, their client is guilty of many public corruptions.

A sombre day in court for Blagojevich, a marked difference to the otherwise circus type atmosphere displayed at his previous trial heariings.

A letter written by Blagojevich’s 15 year old daughter Amy, was read at the court hearing today, begging Judge Zagel not to send her father to prison. His wife Patti, sat weeping as the letter was read.

Charges include trying to sell an appointment to President Barack Obama’s Senate seat for campaigne funds and top job placement, a shake down on racetrack and hospital employees and lying to the FBI and jury. All of which, the ex governor emphatically denied to the bitter end.

According to FoxTV, while the ex governor tried to shift blame for his actions onto his aides and advisers, proclaiming he was fooled into it by them, but having no intention of crossing any illegality, Judge Zegal had this to say to Blagojevich today at court:
“There is no question from his tone that he was demanding. His role as leader is clearly shown by his actions.”

Outside the courthouse, Blagojevich expressed remorse over damage he caused to his children and wife.
“My kids have to face the fact that their father is a convicted felon” said Blagojevich. “And it’s not like their name is Smith. They can’t hide.”

Sadly, the ex governor showed no signs of remorse for his actions. According to former US prosecutor Patrick Cotter, ” Blagojevich expressed no remorse. He says he’s sorry he got caught, he’s sorry his family got hurt, he’s sorry he’s not governor anymore. If you’re not sorry, don’t say anything at all, because all it does is antagonize the judge”.

Blagojevich has to report to prison to serve his 14 year sentence mid February 2012.
For someone who was heard mocking his ‘low six-figure wages’ on FBI wiretaps, it is irony at it’s best. Working at any job in prison is worth pennies at best, per hour.

How quickly do the tables turn when in the end all is accounted for. We can only wish Blagojevich the very best Christmas, and enjoy the time he has, with his children.

To be fair, there are two sides to this drama.
As an American, supporters believe he is allowed to say whatever he wants, and that Judge Zagel was biased in his ruling. With no evidence of Blagohevich’s actions to prove he committed a crime, other than talking about it, this could be a case of railroading.
