Big Brother Wants to Put a Black Box in Your Car

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced they want to put a recording device into your vehicle. What information the box will record and who can access it is still in question. Intel is offering a recording device that includes a camera inside and outside of the vehicle. If they combine this technology with GPS and Bluetooth then you can be watched and tracked everywhere you go.

Why Not? I can hear many people ask why not track people as they drive and then use it as evidence to prosecute law breakers for the crimes they commit?

Police Officer are trained to collect evidence at the scene of an accident. There are many ways to determine the minimum speed of a vehicle when it’s involved in an accident. Scuffs and skid marks give evidence of the minimum speed of the car. There are other techniques in an investigator’s bag of tricks to determine probable cause of an accident. The way our system is constructed is: you are innocent until proven guilty. The evidence is suppose to lead the investigator to the perpetrator.

If the government is convinced that placing recording devices will help prevent crimes then let’s start with their example. Why don’t we place cameras in police cars and city vehicles. Connect them to the internet and allow any citizen to log in and view our public servants at work. Why not place them in all public workers vehicles. We can finally put all those bad jokes to rest about trash collectors, letter carriers and road service people not doing their jobs. Just log onto a “you paid for it” website and watch your tax dollars at work.

Oh I can hear our elected officials screaming now. The reason it won’t happen is because it’s no longer about the people controlling our government but it has become an issue of our government controlling the people. We don’t need more control of the governed, we need to fight for more control of the governing. I guess it is time to stop buying new cars until the big dollar auto industry screams to have the device removed. The only thing that our government seems to listen to these days is money.
