Best Venues for Beer in Denver

Colorado is the Mecca for beer and Denver is one of the cities that have many venues for fine microbrewed craft beer. Denver is the city where the Great American Brew Fest has been held for 30 years.

Breweries

Great Divide Brewing Co. is located just a short walk from Coors Baseball field in Denver. They just expanded their taproom with 20 of their brews on tap. Buy a taster for a $1.00 a piece or a pint of beer for $4.00. Beware that is can be very crowded when there’s a baseball game or late afternoon but

Strange Brewing is one-year old and has become a local favorite. They are located near Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium in an industrial strip mall. Strange Brewing has a friendly atmosphere with recycled wood decorating the taproom and their bar of clear resin that is encased with hops. They brew nine different styles of beer that can be on tap at anytime. My favorite is their Cherry Bomb which was grand mistake of malts. All their beers are of high quality and taste.

Dry Dock Brewing is located south of Denver in Aurora, Colorado. They have been brewing small batch beer since 2005. Recently they have expanded their brewery and tap house to accommodate over 200 seats. Dry Dock Brewing is a local favorite among the Aurora and Denver crowd. They ship kegs to other venues around Metro Denver so don’t worry if you can’t visit this small brewery in person. The tap room has eight of their home fleet beers on tap along with small batch seasonal brews. Pints are $4.00 for fleet beers and some beers are poured in half pints depending on alcohol content.

Taverns

Falling Rock Tap House is a local favorite and the place to be around the GABF week. The Falling Rock is located a block west of Coors Field in the LoDo region of Denver. Their motto is “No Crap on Tap” which is a correct assumption when visiting this tavern. The Falling Rock Tap House has over 60 draft beers on tap and a great selection of bottle beers. You will be amazed at the breweries from all over the country and around the world. Avery Brewing is a local favorite that has many of their beers on tap alongside west and east coast breweries with top notch Belgium breweries. Pints can be $4.00 – 7.00 depending on the rarity of the beer. It is a great venue to discover new favorites and drink your old standbys. The menu is filled with good pub fare from appetizers, salads, hot and cold sandwiches, and they have a great vegetarian burger that is over the top in flavor.

Fresh Craft is located downtown and west from the Falling Rock Tap House. They pay tribute to the Colorado brewing industry with a major portion of their 20 taps dedicated to Colorado breweries. Fresh Craft is a great venue to drink top quality beers. Pints of beer range from $4.00 – 7.00 which depends on the rarity of the beer. Fresh Craft is also a fantastic restaurant with a full food menu. Depending how hungry you are they have small, medium, and large plates. Try out the snack plate that includes two choices of snack with four spud puppies, all for $12.00.

Hops and Pie is another great venue for beer. They have over 20 craft beers on tap with an IPA that was specially brewed for them by Strange Brewing. They have a wide variety of draft beers on tap from local breweries like Strange Brewing, and Dry Dock Brewing to out of state east coast breweries like Dog Fish Head Brewing and Ommegang Brewing. Price of beers is also flexible according to their rarity. Hops and Pie specialize in gourmet pizzas at a reasonable price.
